Caitlin Clark can do no wrong. The Iowa Hawkeyes clashed with the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Wednesday at the Williams Arena. The game was special in more ways than one since Clark was inching closer to multiple records, including the all-time leading scorer in NCAA men’s and women’s basketball and having the most single-season three-pointers. And making history is what the 22-year-old does best.

Clark recorded a triple-double with 33 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists as the Hawkeyes blew out the Golden Gophers 108-60. This was Clark’s 17th career triple-double. Interestingly, Iowa has won every time she has recorded a triple-double. However, this wasn’t the reason it was a historic night for the 2023 AP Player of the Year.

Clark made 8 threes on the night as she surpassed Taylor Pierce of Ohio for the most threes in a season. She now has 156. But she wasn’t done making history on Wednesday. She is also getting closer to LSU legend Pete Maravich’s record of all-time top scorer in both men’s and women’s college basketball circuits.

While she still needs 19 more points to go past Maravich, she surpassed one of the greatest college players of all time, Lynette Woodard’s AIAW record. With her final points in the game, Clark reached the 3,650 points threshold, eclipsing Woodard’s 3,649 points.

After becoming the NCAA’s women’s scoring leader on February 15, Clark’s eyes will now be on her next target: Maravich, who stands atop the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history, with 3,667 points. And she should break the record in her next game while hoping to take revenge against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Next up for Clark and the Hawkeyes is a date against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Sunday. With it being senior day, there is a lot of chatter about the future of the 22-year-old. It might be the only senior day she participates in but there is always the chance of her coming back for her fifth year. Nonetheless, the game will be a historic spectacle if it is similar to their last matchup.

The last time these two teams met, a record crowd turned up to see the Buckeyes upset Iowa, resulting in fans rushing onto the court and Clark getting taken out by a fan. This time, though, it will be at Iowa’s turn. If that is not enough motivation, Clark will likely surpass Maravich’s record as she requires only 19 more points to create history.

This was the Hawkeyes’ second last game in the regular season and the team looked in full swing, gearing up for the conference tournament to follow. The Hawkeyes now have a 25-4 record and are 14-3 in the conference rounds. Iowa looks to be prepping up for the conference tournament that is about to follow, and hopefully, they will get the call to March Madness by being the conference champions.
