Caitlin Clark’s ability to bulldoze records makes her a cult-breaker of the college basketball circuit. But the question is, can Angel Reese’s nemesis surpass the twin scoring records of NCAA Division-I? While Kelsey Plum holds this distinction in women’s division with 3,527 points, Pete Maravich’s 3,667 points makes him the leading scorer in men’s division. Depending on how far Iowa advances in the tournament, Clark has the opportunity to either tie or surpass both of these impressive records.

The #5 Iowa Hawkeyes lately pulled off an upset against No. 16 Kansas State, winning the Gulf Coast Showcase championship with a score of 77-70 at Hertz Arena. This victory improved Iowa’s season record to 7-1. Clark was the standout player, finishing with an impressive 32 points, five rebounds, and six assists in a thrilling game that featured 10 lead changes. Her fabulous form has only raised expectations now.

Caitlin Clark, who led Iowa to the national championship game in April, is on pace to break Kelsey Plum’s (3,527) scoring record. More impressively, she’s on the way to beat Pete Maravich’s 1970 men’s scoring record (3,667 points), which was set before the 3-point arc was established.

Clark has 2,717 career points and is averaging 29.3 points per game through seven games in the 2022–23 season. She’s never had a season with fewer than 26.6 points.

When asked about her record with just 550 points away, Caitlin Clark described her mentality in a post-game conference: “It’s kind of hard to wrap my head around already the attention that I have…even the crowd tonight it’s special; it really is the way people cheer, the way people have on Iowa clothes like it’s just not the same every other program, so I think for me is just don’t let it overwhelm you…these are going to be the best moments of my life.”

Caitlin Clark officially equaled Antoine Davis for the most 30-point games in D1 college basketball over the previous 25 years with her 32 points against the Wildcats. Davis broke the record with Detroit in the previous season, but it looks like it won’t last long because he graduated and Clark has just one 30-point game to beat the NCAA record.

In a previous game, the Hawkeyes dominated with a 100-62 victory at the Gulf Coast Showcase, during which Clark scored 21 points, grabbed six rebounds, and made six assists.
