The Duke Blue Devils have had a mixed start to their campaign. After a dominant display against the Dartmouth Big Green, Duke faltered in a close game against the No.12 seed Arizona. Following their opening win, many experts and analysts started making bold comparisons between the current coach John Scheyer, and the legendary Coach K.

However, their comments are now starting to haunt them after Duke’s disappointing outing at home.

In the latest episode of The Field Of 68: After Dark, Rob Dauster had a chat with Jeff Goodman and Randolph Childress about Duke’s loss. Former NBA player Randolph Childress said, “Part of Duke’s problem is they got this free-flowing offense now with three guards. Five of their first six shots were threes. They’re playing outside in and with those three guards. If you start with three-point guards, you need dribble penetration. Put pressure on the rims.”

Apparently, the Blue Devils’ point guard Tyrese Proctor was very aggressive at the start of the match. However, later that night, his game became dull, and behaved more like a quarterback. Randolph added, “He needs to be more aggressive if Duke’s gonna take the next step. They don’t need him just to be a quarterback.”

Following this, Rob Dauster pointed out that his basketball involves a great deal of passivity and he needs to be more aggressive. A few days back, the former NCAA with Arizona Josh Pastner heaped praises about the recruiting skills of John Scheyer. Furthermore, he went on and even said that Scheyer is better than the iconic Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski.

As a result, this comment faced a lot of backlash and raised questions about Scheyer’s recruiting skills. Nonetheless, the Blue Devils are still the best-looking team in the tournament.

The talented Blue Devils

Later, during the show, the three of them opened up about the talent the Blue Devils possess. Rob Dauster asked Jeff Goodman and Randolph Childress about their opinion of Duke following their loss. Randolph Childress immediately pointed out, “They are still the most talented team. This is still the most talented roster in college basketball. If we’re gonna win, we’ve gotta rebounds.”

Regardless of their loss, the Blue Devils are still a very strong and formidable side in the NCAA. They quickly need to put this loss behind them and get back to winning ways. We will have to wait and see if they can bring their A-game against Michigan.
