Ranking at #3 in the AP Top 25 poll, the North Carolina Tar Heels has been on a roll this season. On Monday night, guard RJ Davis brought some new energy post halftime to the team against Wake Forest, pushing the Tar Heels to an 85-64 win. Although the team was trailing behind in the first half of the game, Davis’ spearheading performance reminded everyone how good he was.

Delivering a stellar double-digit score in every game, let’s look at Davis’ career-defining performances.

On Monday, Davis made every minute count as scored a career-high 36 points in 37 minutes that he played. Along with that, he grabbed 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Although, he did that, however, he also set a new record as a UNC Tar Heel for the most consecutive games with multiple 3-point shots in 16 straight games. Notably, he has surpassed the previous record held by Justin Jackson of 15 games.

The Speedy guard has an impressive ability to break down the defense posed by the opponents as he dribbles and swiftly penetrates through to make a shot. The kind of player he is, Davis has been breaking his previous records as he is moving up in his career.

During his sophomore season, Davis was a part of the ‘Iron Five’, the Tar Heels’ starting lineup including Armando Bacot, Brady Manek, Caleb Love, and Leaky Black, which led North Carolina to the 2022 Final Four. Notably in 2021, Davis scored a then-career-high 26 points against Brown and carried the Tar Heels to a 94-87 win. He surpassed this score by hooping 30 points in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, taking a 93-86 upset victory against Baylor. With this new record, Davis became the first Tar Heel to score 30 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in an NCAA Tournament.

Now, with the recent stellar performance, he has again outdone himself. This season so far, the number has moved up to 6 games where Davis has scored 25 or more points. RJ Davis is the first Tar Heel to have 3 career 30-point games since Luke Maye (5) and Coby White (3) in 2018-19.

Adding more significance to his recent performance, RJ Davis has become the first Tar Heel to score 30 or more points against Wake Forest. This record was previously held by the Tar Heels head coach Hubert Davis who had scored 30 points against the program in August 1992. In addition, he is the third UNC player to score the maximum number of points against Wake Forest with Charlie Scott (43) and Bobby Lewis (37) being the 1st and 2nd player to have done it respectively.

Pouring another nugget of info, Davis is another Tar Heels player to score the most points in the Dean Smith Center since Tyler Hansbrough did it in 2008 by scoring 39 points in a game against Clemson. Davis is without a doubt on the stance to win the ACC Player of the Year Award.
