As the LSU Tigers faced Syracuse Orange, the basketball world witnessed a spectacle in Judah Mintz, a sophomore guard for the Orange. Recording a career-high, he dropped 33 points against the Tigers, leading his team toward their fifth win in the 2023-24 NCAA season.

Judah Mintz: The man behind the name

Born in 2003, Mintz showed early signs of his interest in the sport of basketball. He began his journey to become a basketball player at Gonzaga College High School. As a sophomore, the young baller started making a name by averaging nine points per game. Yet, he felt unsatisfied. And so, by junior year he was averaging an impressive 16 points per game.

Leaving his mark at the Gonzaga High School, Mintz transferred to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia for his senior year, to seek new challenges. The basketball community quickly realized his talents, as they awarded him second-team All-National Interscholastic Basketball Conference honors with an average of 16.8 points per game. 

His dominating career in his high school caught attention, leading to scholarship offers from several programs, as a four-star recruit. At first, he announced his commitment to Pittsburgh, but due to some personal reasons, he took to X, to abandon the program. He said, “I would like to sincerely thank Coach Capel and his staff for the care, concern and respect they’ve shown me and my family. From day one, they welcomed me with open arms and have always been honest with me.”

“While I genuinely appreciate the relationships I’ve developed with them, I still must do what I feel is best for myself moving forward. Therefore, after careful consideration and prayer I have decided to reopen my recruitment. This was not in any way an easy decision to make but it is again, what I believe is best for myself moving forward,” he further added.

He later announced that he would be committing to Syracuse to begin the next chapter of his life. 

A star is on the rise

Judah Mintz’s college career saw a successful start as he averaged 16.3 points, 4.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per game as a guard for the Orange men. After the season was over, he announced that he would be entering his name into the 2023 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. But having had cold feet, he withdrew his name from the draft just before the deadline to return to the college for his sophomore year. 

The Orange men have played seven games so far in the 2023-24 NCAA season, out of which they have won five matches with an average score difference of 19.8 points per game. The two matches they lost were against the Tennessee Volunteers and the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Their most recent match was against the LSU Tigers, which they won with a final score of 80-57.

During this game, Mintz dropped an impressive 33 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and made 4 assists. But, adding to his basketball prowess, he even put his defender on a poster dunk during the game, which left the fans jumping from their seats in excitement.
