Does JuJu Watkins have a title that Caitlin Clark doesn’t? A simple answer to that is yes. The 6’2″ guard was on a quest to grab the NCAA D1 Freshman Scoring Record. With just 8 points behind Tina Hutchinson after her last battle against Baylor, Watkins has finally completed the circle. Today, against Paige Bueckers and the UConn Huskies, the sensational hooper sat on the throne for the highest score as a freshman. Caitlin Clark still stands in the fifth position for the same.

JuJu Watkins stood at 899 points when she etched her name in the history books above Hutchinson, the former San Diego State Aztecs star. While Watkins created history on Monday night, it wasn’t enough to lead the Trojans to their first Final Four appearance in almost four decades.

Addressing the same in the post-game press conference, she stated, “It’s definitely an honor. I mean, of course, like I said, not really the terms I would like to end on. On my season, I mean, I’m just blessed.” Watkins ended the night on 920 points, a mark which won’t be easy to surpass. She could have made further history tonight as she finished just 1 point short of Tamika Catchings’ Freshman NCAA tournament record of 111 points.
