Baton Rouge’s most decorated senior pushed away an early entry into the league for a chance at one more natty, and who can fault her? Flau’jae Johnson has the keys to the kingdom at LSU, and her stats give her a clear shot at becoming queen. With a jumper as pure as silk, the five-foot-ten guard has been wreaking havoc on the SEC for the last couple of years, even leading them to the Elite Eight this past season. And it seems like word of her greatness has spread in the basketball world!

The LSU guard, entering her senior year, is taking every opportunity that comes her way, be it on the field or off of it. During this year’s NBA summer league, Flau’jae Johnson had an incredibly blessed moment with Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving as per a tweet by DallasHoopsJournal reporter Grant Afseth.

Irving, currently out with an ACL tear, has always been supportive of the young bucks, having been in their shoes himself. The Dallas star has come a long way since then–earning himself a $62.3M annual salary and winning a historic championship in 2016. On Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe, Flau’jae Johnson revealed the interaction between her and Kyrie.

Oh, my gosh! I met Kyrie Irving yesterday, and it was so cool,” Johnson said on the show. “He was like, ‘I really respect what you do. I love your raps. I love your basketball.’” But that wasn’t even the best part.

She added, “And then, I was talking to one of his affiliates, and he was like, ‘Yeah, we’re gonna get you and [Irving] in the gym.’ I’m trying to act like I’m not tweaking out, but I’m like cool. I’m geeked.” Honestly? Valid reaction.

Yes, the 21-year-old withdrew from this year’s WNBA draft due to CBA uncertainty and the promise of NIL in college. But as a player, it was yet another opportunity to grow her game. “I want to develop more… I just got a lot of unfinished business,” she explained. Kim Mulkey will expect her to be the leader again after an excellent assumption of the role the previous season, while a second title definitely remains in sight. So this meet up with Irving is as good as it gets.

Described by his opponents as the hardest player to guard and by teammate as really disciplined and focused, this is an opportunity to bank on for Flau’jae Johnson. However, it is not the only one. One half of the Splash Brothers, Klay Thompson, also recently appreciated the LSU Tigers guard. Let’s find out what their interaction was like!

“I wanna watch you work,”: Flau’jae Johnson’s honest plea leads to NBA recognition

If you’ve been following the college basketball scene over the last few years, you’d know just how deadly Flau’jae Johnson is. The five-foot-ten guard is a sniper from deep, and is as clutch as one can get! Her 28-point explosion in this year’s Elite Eight is concrete proof of how Flau’jae can turn up whenever her team needs her the most. Does that remind you of somebody?

We’ll throw a name in the mix–Klay Thompson. The six-foot-five NBA shooting guard is known for his deadly three-ball and his ability to hit the big shots. Not to mention, he can catch-and-shoot better than anyone else in the league! His jumpers are always balanced, and his footwork? Deceptive enough to beat defenders through his jabs and fakes.

Johnson, while talking to Sharpe on Club Shay Shay, revealed how she wanted to pick Klay’s brain for advice and tips. “I text Klay Thompson because I’ve always been impressed with his balance and his footwork,” Flau’jae Johnson said. “I would really like to come and just watch you work. I was like I wanna watch you work. Klay Thompson hit me, and he was like, ‘When I get back to Dallas, we can definitely get some shots up.’ So I kind of have been reaching out.”

The NBA recognition that Flau’jae Johnson is getting is, quite frankly, very well-deserved. There’s nothing that the LSU star hasn’t done over the last few years, and her growth potential is honestly insane. It will be interesting to see whether she can pick up a thing or two from the Dallas Mavs backcourt duo, and if she can take it back to Baton Rouge. After all, there’s a national championship on the line for Flau’jae, and we can’t wait to see her battle it out with the other budding stars.
