Williams transferred to Lake Norman Christian High School for his sophomore year, where he averaged 21.2 points per game. He then returned to San Ysidro High School, his original alma mater for his senior year averaging 23.2 points, 9.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game.

Mikey Williams’ future, however, is currently clouded in uncertainty as interest in the NCAA Division 1 2023–24 season develops. Williams’ arrest in April 2023, facing five accusations of assault involving the possession of a pistol, was recently made public by ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. Williams is accused of firing at an occupied vehicle during one of these incidents. Fortunately, no one inside the car was hurt.

On Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Sherry M. Thompson-Taylor ruled that Williams must stand trial on six felony gun charges. Judge Thompson-Taylor scheduled Williams’ arraignment for October 24. While the prosecution sought to increase Williams’ bail to a staggering $500,000, the judge denied this request.

Williams has been out on bail since his arrest on April 13, with a $50,000 bond securing his temporary freedom.

The timing of these legal issues is extremely precarious and may put Mikey Williams’ much anticipated collegiate debut in jeopardy. The effects might go even deeper, influencing his hopes of being selected in the NBA draft in 2024.

Williams is facing quite severe accusations. He is charged with one count of firing into an occupied car and five counts of assault with a weapon. He might be sentenced to up to 28 years in jail if found guilty on all charges. These accusations are related to a shooting that happened on March 27 outside his $1.2 million unincorporated Jamul home in eastern San Diego County. Fortunately, none of the five occupants of the automobile were hurt despite the bullets striking it.

George Modlin, a deputy district attorney, is debating whether to file more charges in Williams’ case. There were six people in the targeted automobile, according to testimony during a recent preliminary hearing, and witnesses said Williams had threatened them. Even though no one saw Williams fire a gun, the weight of the evidence against him seems to be mounting.

Williams sat next to his lawyer, Troy P. Owens, during the preliminary hearing while sporting a black suit, a black mock turtleneck, and white sneakers. As they exited the courtroom, neither would comment. Owens has pleaded not guilty on Williams’ behalf.
