When fans think of the NCAA, one name that immediately comes to their mind is that of the Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark. She has been exceptional for a number of years and continues to etch her name in the record books with each passing performance. The NCAA icon recently became the all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball when she surpassed Washington Huskies legend Kelsey Plum. And now Clark is getting closer to making more history in the NCAA. She is about to become the all-time leading scorer in the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball combined, and we can expect it to happen as soon as on Sunday.

The Hawkeyes will face off against the No.2-seed, Ohio State Buckeyes, in the final regular season game on March 3rd. While this game will be special for multiple reasons, all eyes will be on Clark as she looks to move past Detroit Mercy Titans guard Antoine Davis (3,664 points) and LSU icon ‘Pistol’ Pete Maravich (3,667 points). Following her 33-point outing against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Clark is currently sitting at 3,650 points, just 18 away from creating history.

The game on Sunday against the Buckeyes will hold more significance considering what happened the last time these two teams met. A record crowd turned up to watch Ohio State upset the Hawkeyes at the Value City Arena in Columbus, resulting in a court storm. Amidst this, a fan took Clark out. The 22-year-old will be looking for revenge at her home turf and what better night to do it? Considering her season average of 32.1 PPG, she will likely break the record against her rivals.

While this may prove to be Clark’s final run with the Hawkeyes, certain sections of fans hope the 2023 AP Player of the Year returns for a fifth year. Whether she does so or not is up for debate. However, one thing is certain. If she decides to enter the WNBA Draft, the front office of the Indiana Fever will be licking their lips at the prospect of picking her with the No.1 pick. And her stock rose further on Wednesday night.

Another historic night for Caitlin Clark against Minnesota

The 22-year-old recorded a triple-double with 33 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists against Minnesota. This was her 17th career triple-double, all of which have resulted in a win. Additionally, she also broke the single-season record of threes made with 156. She still has a chance to add to her tally. But she wasn’t done making history.

Clark also surpassed Lynette Woodard’s women’s scoring record of 3,649 points, who was a part of the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW).

Whatever Clark chooses to do is up to her, but her fans would be hoping that she becomes the NCAA men’s and women’s all-time leading scorer in her next contest. They would be keen on purchasing the tickets to her next game and those who cannot attend in person would be glued to their televisions to see another historic feat in the making.
