Brink further says, “Being a lottery pick has always been a dream of mine, and you know and just be able to go to the draft and be there in New York,” delighted to be considered as one of the lottery picks.

It is indeed a big transformation for her and other players as they will be experiencing a shift from college basketball to professional basketball. So, it is obvious for her to feel nervous. However, she puts it in a positive way saying, “I’ll definitely be nervous. But you know ‘nerves’ are because you care. So, its just all good things channeling into positive energy.”

With anticipation and excitement going hand in hand, Cameron is thrilled to be playing alongside the distinguished WNBA players, “A higher level of competition, I think I am just excited to play by the big dogs now. I know it’s gonna be a learning process. There’s gonna be a huge learning curve but I am just excited to be a part of it.”

With her dedication and skill, Brink has climbed all the steps of her college basketball career. She won a state championship, was named an All-American, won the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, won a national championship, and won the Lisa Leslie Award, and these are just a few accolades achieved by Brink among others in her college basketball career. Feeling thankful for every opportunity she says, “Every single step has made me who I am, So I am just thankful for every moment.”

In addition, she acknowledges the significant contributions made in her journey as she says it’s not hers alone, “I have worked hard to be here, but it definitely a testament to the state of Oregon, the people, the community, um my parents, its really you know just takes a village so, just not me. This is a representation of our state and I am just thankful for all the support truly.”

Now, let’s explore which trait got Brink to be projected as the second overall pick in the 2024 WNBA mock draft.

It’s clearly her defense!

Given that the Los Angeles Sparks have gone into rebuilding after they lost Nneka Ogwumike to free agency, its Cameron’s strong defense that fits just right for the team going into the next season, as well as her ability to pose a potential threat to the opponents.

As reported by The Athletic, “She is still an outstanding defensive player who covers ground well, can stay with guards or bigs, and prevents shots from being taken in addition to contesting them. Her shooting form suggests she’ll be able to play out on the perimeter because her frame is best suited to playing power forward.”

Brink winning the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award, along with the Lisa Leslie Award, which are given to the best centers in women’s basketball, makes her an undeniable choice.
