Is This Caitlin Clark’s Worst Shooting Night of Her College Basketball Career? Debunking Iowa Star’s Performance vs Kansas State

Days after their superstar dropped a 40-point game, the Hawkeyes suffered a big loss in their game four of the 2023-24 NCAA season. Fans were most disappointed about Caitlin Clark’s performance. Although she managed to score 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, this wasn’t even close to her real potential. She only made 9 out of 32 shots overall and 2 out of 16 shots from 3-point range. 

There’s no doubt that Clark is one of the best players to ever set foot in college basketball circuit. With her impressive skills and scoring ability, she became one of the most known and influential players in her league. But while her scoring ability is impeccable, her worst performances against the Kansas Wildcats is simply serving her a lesson.  

“I’m just disappointed”

Following Clark’s lackluster show, the Hawkeyes lost the match to an unranked team with a final score of 58-65. In an interview with ESPN, the Iowa star, opened up about this loss, “It’s certainly one we can learn from and probably taught us a lot of lessons of how we can get better.”

“We need more people to be able to contribute, and that’s on me to get them involved in the game. Especially on nights where I might not shoot the ball as great. Rely on my teammates, get them open, get them a clean look,” she added. 

Clark further said, “I think it shows you’ve got to come in every single day and be ready to play basketball because no matter who it is, you can beat anybody, you can lose anybody. That’s a great thing about women’s basketball. That’s what makes it so fun. I’m just disappointed we didn’t really put on a great performance for our fans who came out and supported us really well.”

Despite her assuring words, the fans are at the loss of her recent court outing. However, one setback can’t decide Clark’s stellar performance.

The Hawkeyes currently stand with 3 victories and 1 loss. In their season opener against Fairleigh Dickinson, they secured a flawless victory, with a final score of 102-46. During this match, Clark alone had 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 10 assists.

In their second match against Virginia Tech, they again won with the final score of 80-76. While this was a close game, Clark played a crucial role in helping her team with this match as she scored a jaw-dropping 44 points, had 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Being on a run to solidify her status as one of the greatest players, she dropped 24 points, had 10 rebounds, and 11 assists.

Looking at her history, the game against the Wildcats might be Clark’s worst shooting night in her college basketball career. However, fans will be expecting the team to make a comeback from this loss, in their next match against the Drake Bulldogs.
