JuJu Watkins enters the record books

On a record night, JuJu gave a standout performance by scoring 35 points and led a resounding win for the USC Trojans. As a result, she became the first freshman in Division I to have more than one 30-point game in the first three matches in the last 25 seasons. In addition to this, JuJu also joins the two-time WNBA champion and former USC player Lisa Leslie. They are the only USC freshmen with multiple 30-point games. In her first three games as a freshman, JuJu is making basketball look easy by sitting on 83 points. This included her last week’s exceptional outing against the No. 7 Ohio State. She ended up having 32 points registered next to her name.

The Pac-12 freshman of the week dazzled the court by landing six 3-pointers. Combining with junior center Rayah Marshall, JuJu scored 14 points and seven rebounds in the first quarter. Following this, she opened her account in the second quarter with a  four-point play. Furthermore, when the game entered its fourth quarter, JuJu scored 13 out of the first 15 points for the Trojans. Consequently, USC led the game by 91-32 before adding 2 more points to their final score.

Further, she also won the MVP for the tournament with an average of 13.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.3 steals per game. Apparently, Watkins was also awarded MVP in the McDonald’s All-American Game for 2023.
