North Carolina is tailoring yet another player under the shed in RJ Davis. The University of North Carolina has had a significant number of its players drafted in the NBA. So far, the North Carolina Tar Heels have had 113 players drafted ever since the NBA began holding a yearly event in 1947. This includes Hall of Famers like Michael Jordon, who was the third overall draft pick by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984 draft, James Worthy in 1982, and Brad Daughtery in 1986.

Interestingly out of that number, 52 Tar Heels have been drafted in the first round of their NBA draft. In addition, of all those players, 5 players have been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Let’s explore what the future holds for UNC’s Saviour RJ Davis.

Is RJ Davis ready to be drafted in the NBA?

As per the rules of the NBA, a player must be at least one year removed from high school and at least 19 years old during the calendar year of the draft. Now, while Davis fulfills these criteria, however, he has chosen to stay with the Tar Heels and continue his education at UNC.

The reason behind this decision can vary from wanting to develop his skills in college or enjoy the experience to improve his draft stock. Notably, not all players who are eligible, choose to enter. Although, he is expected to be drafted in 2025.

RJ Davis, the UNC Saviour

Due to his significant contributions to the North Carolina Tar Heels, he is referred to as the ‘UNC Saviour’. He scored a career-high 12 rebounds and 15 points in the national championship game against Kansas. Similarly, in the national semifinal matchup against Duke, Davis hooped 18 points, out of which he scored 14 points in the first half only along with 4 assists. With his instrumental gameplay, he has carried his team to several victories.

Further, he scored a career-high 30 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds against Baylor, making himself the 13th Tar Heel to score 30 points in an NCAA game. At times he has stepped up his game in crucial games, earning him the title – ‘UNC Saviour’. Moreover, this season, he has been averaging 18.2 points per game.

The season is simultaneously moving forward, however, Davis’ decision can be pivotal for the Tar Heels.
