The back-to-back defending champions are in dismay! UConn has just lost their second game of the Big East conference to Creighton. The Huskies have looked shaky over the last few games, with a loss coming from Villanova just two games prior. Dan Hurley and his Huskies are being backed into a corner. Someone in the squad needs to take the onus and step up, otherwise, such a run could spell disaster for UConn.

John Fanta, host of The Field of 68: After Dark, had a lot to say about this game on X. He complimented the Bluejays for breaking UConn’s 28-game home winning streak. Creighton, after this victory and the one over Kansas, are getting closer and closer to achieving their hopes of a NCAA tournament appearance. According to Fanta, they are headed on the right track.

Against Creighton, UConn put up 63 points to their 68. Fans are beginning to question the quality of the Huskies team. A concerning factor that many are pointing out is the lack of offense from the bench. The entire bench combined for only four points as compared to eleven from the Bluejays.

It will be interesting to see how Dan Hurley’s Huskies will recover from this loss, as it might endanger their post-season hopes. Starters Alex Karaban and Samson Johnson were no-shows in this game. Karaban had been leading UConn in scoring, so for him to only drop 8 points was definitely a major factor. The UConn coach will need to pull every trick he has in his bag for another shot at the title because the fans definitely need to see something now.

Some fans are blaming the officiating and the league, however. “I’m really over the big east at this point. UConn is the marquee brand in the conference and gets absolutely f–ked every time by the league.” said an X user, complaining about the decorum of the conference and of the NCAA in general. Further replies showed the person’s frustration towards the referees of the game.

It is especially bad for those who bet on college basketball. “UConn is the most irritating team to bet,” tweeted a fan. To lose money on such a powerhouse must hurt!

A fan summed up the situation quite aptly. “AND UCONN STILL CAN’T BEAT CREIGHTON” Taking the situation back to the previous season, the Blue Jays won over the Huskies 85-66 for one of the two matchups the two had.

The UConn are next facing Butler on the 21st. Now tied for 3rd in the Big East, they have a long way to go before they can comfortably expect a deep post-season run. If Dan Hurley manages to get it together, however, the team is still capable of anything. What do you think? Will the Huskies defend their title? The next few games will be a judge of that.
