Last night UConn yet again defeated another non-conference opponent. In a matchup against New Hampshire, the Huskies made history with an 84-64 win. Center Donovan Clingan scored a career-high 29 points and played a crucial part in this victory. But despite the historic win, Clingan felt something missing.

Evidently, in the post-game interview, UConn’s center expressed the missing element holding the team back from the much-deserved victory celebration. He expressed that the team still has to earn that general respect in terms of college basketball.

Clingan minced no words, “Yeah, I mean, I feel like, you know, we don’t get the respect that we deserve. But you know, that just makes us hungry and makes us want to, you know, play better. And you know, win more, umm, you know, like Tristan’s been putting on performances. And you know, it’s not really talked about. But you know he’s just going to keep doing it because that’s, you know, worked last year. And you know just got to keep going, umm, you know, we just got to keep being dominant. And you know, keep proving people why, you know, we’re one of the best programs in the country.”

Elaborating that the game isn’t reflecting the team’s potential, Donovan said, “Yeah, you know, I mean I feel like, like Trist said, you know, shooting for 28th from the 3point line definitely not who we are. You know, we knocked out shots, umm, you know, we’re much better at the defensive end.”

Adding his observations about the opponents, he said, “I feel like they shouldn’t have 64 points, your defense got to be much better. So you know, and you know I feel like rebounding, you know. We won that battle but I’m, you know, we just, we’re a tough team, you know. We could defend, we could play offense at all three levels. We’re hard to guard, but you know, tonight was definitely an off night, but you know, to get in the gym next three days and we’ll be good for Friday.”

But, why this victory is so important for UConn?

UConn’s historic outing

Monday night got hollering for the Huskies playing at the Gampel Pavillion as UConn won over New Hampshire. But this was no ordinary win. Evidently, it was UConn’s 24th consecutive win over a non-conference team, and that too in double figures. The record was previously been broken by North Carolina in 2008-09 with 23 points.

Donovan shooting 12-of-13 shots made a career-high 29 points, becoming this season’s fourth Husky to have a 20-point game. Moreover, this game witnessed Newton’s double-double straight after he bagged the third triple-double of his career.

In addition to scoring accolades, the game also marked the first time a Husky has recorded a double-double in consecutive games since Adama Sanogo, who had three straight to cap the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
