The University of Connecticut Huskies have found a star in their guard Cam Spencer. Spencer averages 15 points in the eight games he has played so far with 3.5 assists per game. His season high has come against the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils when he potted an astounding 25 points. Other than that he has chipped in regularly in blocks and assists as well. Overall, Spencer has a decent 43.4% three-pointer percentage and a 91.3% free throw percentage.

Another player for the Huskies who had wrecked havoc this season is their guard, Tristen Newton. Newton averages a whopping 17.5 points with 7.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. He is one of the most destructible forces for the Huskies and will be difficult to deal with if not contained within time. The duo can give the Tar Heels a run for their money especially in the backcourt and will have to be stopped. But in a match between Huskies and Tar Heels, some other college stars can equally own the court.

The North Carolina Tar Heels have a lot of hopes in their forward Harrison Ingram. Ingram has averaged a respectable 14.5 points in the eight games he has played so far with an exemplary 6.8 rebounds per game. He has a spectacular 64.7% free throw percentage along with an honorable 46.4% and 43.2% field goal and three-pointer percentage.

Unfortunately, Ingram had a tough game against the Florida State Seminoles since he could only basket 11 points and had a lacklustre 3-for-11 field goal and a derogatory 0-for-4 three-pointer tally. The Tar Heels have already faced one of the toughest defenses in the Tennessee from which they would have taken a lot that can be applied to this match. And Ingram is too good to have bad games consecutively.

Hence, the UNC would be banking on their forward.

Head to Head

The Huskies have locked horns with the University of North Carolina six times. 5 out of 6 games have swayed in the UNC’s favor with the Huskies winning just one. The longest winning streak for the UNC has been of three games consecutively against the Connecticut.

The Connecticut are the reigning champions at this time and will have a reputation to defend and would be looking to win their second clash against the UNC in the program’s history. Their last matchup took place in February 2005 in which the UNC trumped the Huskies by a decent margin of 77-70.

Prediction

Going into the game, the Huskies would be looking to get their second win against the UNC in the NCAA. The Armando Bacot-team does not have the size advantage in their favor but can still have a high rebound rate. The match will most probably swing on that team’s side which has a better rebounding capacity.

It will be an evenly contested match unless the Tar Heels do something magical that gets them to win the game. The Huskies might actually have the win they have been waiting for years.
