A few months back, UCLA officially commenced its countdown toward a more assured future as its old conference makes its way to uncertainties. As a part of this transition, the UCLA website counts the days, hours, minutes, and seconds until it becomes a member of the Big Ten Conference on the 2nd of August 2024.

The clock represents UCLA’s simultaneous exit from the Pac-12 membership as they are trying to respect the past and embrace the future. As reported by LATimes, the chief strategy officer for the UCLA athletic department and the point person for this transition Matt Elliott said, “Our mindset right now is to make sure that we are ready for everything that comes when we join the Big Ten. We want to remain elite in everything we do when we get there.”

As a result, the Big Ten membership will eventually help UCLA in this direction. Per year, UCLA will supposedly be making between $65 million and $75 million in media rights fees, which is quite higher than what they would have got by staying in the Pac-12. In addition, UCLA will also be getting an increased national exposure and a larger recruiting footprint.
