Angel Reese’s Basketball Career

Nicknamed “Bayou Barbie,” Reese’s journey began in St. Frances Academy in Maryland, where she dominated the competition. Having earned McDonald’s All-American honors in 2020 and ranked second in her class by ESPN, Reese’s talent is undeniable.

Recruited mostly by top programs, Reese ultimately chose the University of Maryland, becoming the highest-ranked recruit in Terrapins history. But a broken foot in her freshman year sidelined her for a significant chunk of the season. Despite the setback, Reese showed her potential by averaging 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds.

In her sophomore season, Reese thrived. She averaged a double-double (points and rebounds in double figures) for the first time since Maryland legend Angie Scott in 1975. Her shooting skills and scoring ability established Reese as a terrific player. When the Terrapins fell in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, Reese’s talent was on full display.

After her junior year, Reese made a bold move, transferring to the Louisiana State University (LSU) Tigers. This decision paid off. Reese fit in well with the LSU program and once again led the team in scoring and rebounding as a junior. Her all-around game includes her defensive skills. This earned her a spot on the All-America Third Team by the Associated Press.

While Angel Reese captivates audiences with her stellar performances on the basketball court, it is impossible to ignore the influence of her mother Angel Webb.  A light of strength, intelligence and unwavering support, Webb’s legacy is a reminder that behind every great athlete stands someone wonderful: a parent whose love and guidance pave the way to success.
