In 2020, the New York Knicks hired him as an assistant coach under the guidance of head coach Tom Thibodeau. Currently, he is the head coach for the University of Louisville, where he finished his first season with only four wins, achieving the worst record in the history of any Louisville basketball team.

Why is Coach Payne receiving firing threats and cheating accusations?

As the Cardinals lost the game against a Division II basketball team, this had the fans furious. After securing the worst record in Cardinals’ history, this loss only added to the already burning fires in the fans. His previous record of coaching at Kentucky made the fans think he was working for Kentucky and was planted by them in Louisville to destroy their program from within.

Many frustrated, as well as concerned for the future of the Cardinals, took to X, to show their concerns and get Coach Payne fired.

While the regular season hasn’t even started, Louisville is crumbling from the inside and it is not a good sign for either the college or the athletes. If something isn’t done about this soon, the Cardinals can be looking for another disappointing season.

In an interview after the match, Coach Payne said, “The disconnect is understanding fully, how hard that you gotta practice, how hard you gotta play, how desperate you have to be defensively. The disconnect is other teams are good. I knew going into this game that this was gonna be a tough game. We can’t beat teams with talent. We’re never gonna be the most talented team. But we can beat them with fight.”

His words showcase that he doesn’t have faith in his players. In times like this, he should be the guiding light for the team. However, there is no comment on the ongoing threats and accusations by the Coach or the college.
