The involvement and influence of money in basketball have been a talking point for a while now. The NIL era has affected the in-game performances of many teams negatively. The UNC Tar Heels are the latest to find themselves on the critical radar of former players and experts. A lot has been said about their poor show the previous season. Furthermore, the transfer of their star shooting guard Caleb Love to Arizona has further added salt to their wounds.

Tyler Hansbrough opens up about NIL

The latest episode of the popular podcast show The Field Of 68: After Dark was released recently. Rob Dauster invited Tyler Hansbrough to talk about the resurgence of North Carolina this season. Rob asked Tyler about how he would be able to handle the NIL deals and sponsorships in college. Hansbrough replied, “It would have been a difficult task, I’ll tell you that. If we get a massive amount of money in college, we’re still young we would have spent our money in stupid ways. We were going to do stupid things.”

NCAA players having massive NIL deals is the latest trend in college basketball. Many believe that the obligations attached to people outside the college program offset is a player’s performance. Moreover, players are under constant pressure to justify the price invested in their name. Talking more about UNC, Tyler further added, “I have heard that NIL had played a factor last year. Their body language wasn’t great at times. Their effort looked like it lacked.”

Many players have already left the camp including Tar Heels’ leading scorer Caleb Love. Moreover, they weren’t able to justify the No.1 seed tag in the preseason AP poll. However, their head coach Hubert Davis is looking to turn things around this season.

The talk of the town is the inclusion of the talented freshman guard Elliot Cadeau. He led the Link Academy to the Geico Nationals Championship last season. In addition to this, Elliot is ranked second in the list of best freshman point guards.

Furthermore, the sharp and lethal Zayden High is also turning quite a few heads this season. The power forward’s immaculate defensive skills make him a worthy addition to the squad. The other players to look out for are Cormac Ryan, Jae’Lyn Withers, Paxson Wojcik, Harrison Ingram, and James Okonkwo.
