Another victory! Texas A&M becomes the sole group in conference play to go undefeated and takes the top spot in the SEC rankings. However, during a large portion of Saturday’s crucial SEC battle against LSU, Texas was unimpressive. But, the game changed course in the 3rd quarter when the Aggies overcame the Tigers because of outstanding efforts from former 4-star QB Marcel Reed. Indeed- “What a night to be an Aggie!”

On October 27, Kirk Herbstreit posted a complimenting message on his X account after Reed’s great performance during Saturday’s game. The post said, “Known @Marcel10Reed since his Fr year at @MontgomeryBell where he played with my sons. The guy is the real deal. Can run it..can spin it..he’s intelligent..can improvise to throw or run..has awareness..and he’s a leader. He’s just scratching the surface of what he’ll be. His insertion into the @AggieFootball lineup tonight was a game changer and ultimately will impact the Aggies long term goals this season.

With LSU ahead 17–7 at halftime, it was an incredible turnaround. Weigman went 64 yards as A&M failed to create many holes against the LSU defense in the opening half. But head coach, Mike Elko, benched Weigman, his QB1, after Texas slipped down LSU in the 3rd quarter and tried to get the offense back on track by passing the ball to Marcel Reed. With 8:10 remaining in the 3rd quarter, Reed came on the court.

On the opening drive of the game, Reed sparked a fire with an 8-yard touchdown run to the delight of 108,852, the third-highest crowd ever at Kyle Field. Then, in his next five drives, he led the Aggies to 4 TDs and a field goal, which helped No. 14 defeat No. 8, 38-23. Hence, it was a really startling upset for a major university like LSU.

Safe to say, for this outstanding performance, coach Elko praised Reed, saying, “Obviously unbelievable credit to Marcel Reed to be ready to go tonight.” However, Reed was not only exceptional in today’s game, but he was exceptional in most of the Texas’ games this season.

Prior to missing the following three games because of an AC joint injury sustained in the first game of the season over Notre Dame, Weigman began both of his initial games with a 1-1 record. Then, Marcel Reed grabbed the starting position and gave the team 3 straight victories. Reed made four appearances, starting three of them, and finished with 585 yards, six touchdowns, and no interceptions. He contributed 42 carries with 230 yards and two TDs to his passing game.

Following his performance throughout the season to date, Elko stated, “I’m gonna say this too. Marcel Reed. Where you at? Because here’s culture. Culture is coming in when your names call, leading us to 3-0 making it an extremely difficult decision deciding to go back with our starter.” Let’s see if Marcel will start as quarterback for Texas’ next game.
