After a 1-11 season, USF finally turned it around and made it to the bowl game. That was in the first year of Alex Golesh. At the start of the season, his Bulls overpowered Boise State and Florida, and since then, his name has been at the top of coaching searches. With top programs looking for HCs, Golesh gets linked to these jobs almost every day. On his part, the USF head coach has been clear with where he stands.

“I could legitimately couldn’t care less at this point,” he had said earlier in an appearance on the SiriusXM College Sports Radio on the speculations. His name has appeared on the search radar of Penn State, LSU, Florida, and Arkansas, among other programs.
On Friday, he addressed the “possibility of other things in the future.” In a conversation with David Pollack, he made his intentions clear.

“Would you believe me if I told you? I really don’t think it is. Like I’ve been so crazy transparent in like in every single aspect of our program.” For the head coach, one of the foremost priorities is clear and honest communication with his players. So, when his name was thrown as a potential HC candidate, he was quick to initiate communication with his players.

“I’ve stood in front of our guys for almost three years now and just told them the truth,” he added. “The only thing that we have talked about as a program is being right here, right now, like be where your feet are.”
Concluding and sending across his message to other programs, he added, “The thought of other jobs, other opportunities like haven’t crossed my mind cuz I don’t have time.”
He entered USF in 2023, changing gears within his first year. For a program that had recorded just four wins over the last three seasons, Golesh led a 7-6 record, with a 45-0 win against Syracuse at the Boca Raton Bowl. Transforming a program that had won just four games over the past two seasons to consecutive bowl wins earned Golesh an affirmative nod.
His 2025 season performance is nothing short of impressive. His offense has registered 40.4 points per game. In September, he was named to the Dodd Trophy National Coach of the Week, following consecutive wins against ranked Boise State and Florida Gators.

With his response, “right now we’re incredibly happy,” Alex Golesh has made it clear that he is happy at South Florida. “We’re in year three of building what I think is something really, really unique and special.”
Why is Alex Golesh in high demand?
Before coming to USF, the Ohio State alum boasted a strong coaching portfolio, including stints as offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at Tennessee under Josh Heupel. Helping the roster break eight single-season records during a single season (2021) is quite an accomplishment, transforming a 108th-ranked offense to No. 7th. During his three-year tenure at Knoxville, his offense finished in the top ten in both scoring and total offense each year.
Across his coaching career, Alex Golesh has made 12 bowl appearances, coaching five players to the NFL ranks.
His work at USF has earned him significant praise from his colleagues. Bulls’ Tight end coach Jack Taylor complimented Golesh’s attention to detail. He’s extremely detailed and the hardest-working person I’ve ever been around in my life. You just try to match that level of detail, that level of intensity, that level of work.”
