This year’s start to the season has been the worst for FSU in the previous 49 years. With a record of 1–7, they’re beginning the worst run possible. The head coach of FSU had little to say about the team’s poor performance. Can you think of anything more startling? Searching FSU’s recruitment trail might not be for you. Consecutive de-commitments. Meanwhile, we have learned something new about the program, concerning a former player who didn’t recommend players to commit to the program.

Indeed, Keon Coleman, a former wide receiver for FSU, cautioned recruiters against attending Florida State. “Keon Coleman told recruits not to go to FSU🥴🫢” was the description for a video clip of Noles247 that Omar345 posted on his X account on November 2. According to the video, Zach Blostein said, “Yes,” when Brendan Sonnone, host of Noles247, questioned him about the veracity of Keon’s stunning campaign against Mike Norvell. Moreover, Zach stated, “Yeah. I mean, yes, that was something that Florida State was trying to combat back in, like, January, February with some high-profile receivers they were after. But yes, that is that happened.”

Since FSU has nothing to offer prospective players but the fact that 2025 will be a new year, it would seem that Keon is fully aware of the current dire state of their recruitment situation. Otherwise, it may be advantageous for FSU to attract athletes in spite of their extremely difficult circumstances. Anything could be the cause. Not sure.

However, we are certain that the Noles have shed 4 high-profile recruits since the start of September. WR Daylan McCutcheon, WR Malik Clark, EDGE Javion Hilson, and DL Myron Charles (presently committed to Texas). The flip list also recently included another wide receiver, CJ Wiley. Following Wiley’s departure, there are currently only 11 formal commitments for the 2025 class of FSU. Disappointing! One item, though, may surprise you; Mike Norvell’s job is still safe, despite his incompetency. But why?

The reason behind Mike Norvell’s job security

On an episode of ESPN back on October 30, commentators Finebaum and David Hale appeared to talk about FSU’s unsettled situation under Norvell. “It’d be hard for me to see them not making significant changes after this offseason. Obviously, I don’t think that includes Mike Norvell, who has a huge buyout and certainly deserves more time to try to remedy this situation” David said during their talk, highlighting the reality that officials do not take such action even after teams’ awful performances. Anyway, the explanation for why Norvell is still in the squad is associated with FSU’s $63 million commitment.

The hefty amount outlined in the agreement has put FSU in a difficult situation with Norvell. They are required to provide him with a substantial amount of $63M even if the team decides to fire him. It’s not the only problem, either. For the term of his deal, which is scheduled to expire in 2031, this sum represents 85% of his future salary as supplementary pay. You can see now how challenging it is for the team when saying depart to Mike Norvell.

However, if you are not aware, during Mike’s previous season, this team was unbeaten. What took place this year, then? Is the coach truly incompetent, or is it just luck? What do you think?
