Arch Manning finally answered his critics with an outstanding performance against Sam Houston. The QB will be looking to extend his form.

Preseason hype has not turned into regular season reality. Arch Manning was supposed to be the chosen one. The Longhorns were ranked no.1 entering the season. Now it’s Week 7. Manning has been booed by his own crowd for throwing 10 straight incompletions against the UTEP Miners of all teams. The Longhorns are 3-2 with 0-1 in conference play. For Texas fans sadly, ‘we are not back’. But these stumbles by Manning has given Carson Beck the stage to show off his comeback season with the Miami Hurricanes.

Manning also entered week 1 as the Heisman Trophy favorite. But he has now fallen off in those rankings. On the October 10 episode of Bear Bets, Chris “Bear” Fallica, Sam Panayotovich, and Geoff Schwartz discussed the changes in the Heisman race. Chris Fallica said, “If you were to jump into this market right now, is there a bet that you’d be looking to make?” To which Geoff replied, “And the answer is Carson Beck, right? When you look at Miami’s schedule and look at his performance so far this season, what we think is going to happen for Miami, which is what I think we all think, 12-0. Plus, he has some young wide receivers who are going to get better throughout the season.”
Sam went on to add, “I think Miami and Carson Beck are the right choice for Heisman right now. I know the number. You have a better number. We all have better numbers, but if you’re jumping this market now, he’s the safest bet.” According to Week 7 Heisman Trophy Odds, Dante Moore is leading the Heisman race by +500, followed by Carson Beck +600, Ty Simpson +650, Jeremiah Smith +900, Fernando Mendoza +1400, and John Mateer +1500.

Heisman-favorite Carson Beck delivers amazing performance against South Florida.
Beck has been consistent throughout the season, as he guides the Canes through a season without a single loss yet. In the five games he played, he has completed 102 of 139 attempts, passing for 1213 yards and 11 touchdowns with 3 interceptions. He maintains a completion rate of 73.5 with an average of 242 yards per game, and at least 2 TDs per game. Most importantly, Beck has done this against quality opponents like Notre Dame, the Seminoles, and the Gators. It must be noted that this Gators team that has just beaten the Longhorns, was dominated 26-7 by Beck. If this continues, Beck can overcome Dante Moore of Oregon, taking the lead as the unanimous Heisman trophy favorite.

Oregon vs Indiana Could Affect Carson Back’s Heisman Trophy Rank
Week 7 of College Football could have a major impact on the rankings. Oregon vs Indiana result will affect both the AP Poll rankings and Heisman Trophy rankings, as it is featuring two frontrunners. If Oregon’s Moore manages to pull out a big win against Indiana, he can retain that top spot until next week. Moore currently plays with an average of 242 yards, with at least 2 TDs per game. “I think we got the best quarterback in college football,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning declared after the Ducks’ win at Penn State.

If Indiana’s QB, Fernando Mendoza, pulls out a big win, he could unseat the rest and go straight to the front of the race. He is currently the fifth favorite for the Heisman Trophy. Through five games this year, Mendoza has thrown for 1,208 yards on a 73% competition rate (top 10 in the country) while already matching his 16 touchdowns from last season with only one interception. Let’s not forget the smart safety he took against Iowa to ensure his team wins, despite the hit on any individual numbers. A mark of a true leader.
Since the Miami Hurricanes are on a bye week, there has to be movement on the Heisman race. Unless both the QBs struggle, which is rare to occur. But the Heisman destiny for Carson Beck is in his own hands. If he continues to win games and play with excellence, then there is no reason why Beck can’t be the winner for that prestigious award for 2025.
