“I know I can get this fixed,” Hugh Freeze told reporters on Monday, in light of the talk surrounding his job security. The list of fired head coaches this season continues, and the Auburn HC might find himself there soon. The problems emerging in the program this season are so debilitating that his exit from Auburn seems more and more likely now.

Hugh Freeze has 4 straight losses this season, all within the conference. The HC was already walking on eggshells ahead of the season, as the losses eclipsed his wins. And now, when seasoned veterans can be fired after just one bad season, it means Hugh Freeze is no exception. Issues continue to plague the Auburn offense in every game. And, Freeze keeps losing by a margin of only a few points. Auburn insider Kyle Rush thinks Freeze himself knows his time at the program could be coming to a close.

“He mentioned that he would like to have a chance to fix things. That doesn’t sound like someone that feels safe at all,” Rush said in an appearance on The Barn. “To me, that was the first time where I felt like at least Hugh feels like he could be on extremely thin ice,” he added. Freeze is now 1-12 against ranked opponents, and 14-18 overall. Freeze has very little time to fix the issues that are keeping both him and the Tigers in danger.
The offense is a joke at Auburn at the moment. And the number one problem is Jackson Arnold and the plays Freeze has been calling for him. In the double overtime against Missouri, the Tigers were on 3 and 6 and wanted a TD to save themselves. Arnold went through the B gap for 2 yards, and got sacked in the next play. Drops and missed field goals took the game away from Auburn. Jackson Arnold continues to be a problem in his second season, and registered his first interception in Week 8. Freeze has, however, shown interest in backup QB Ashton Daniels replacing Arnold.

The Tigers are yet to go past the 20-point mark in conference play this year. Sure, the games are close. But there hasn’t been much from the offense that fans can be proud about. The defense is Hugh Freeze’s only saving grace at this point. The road up ahead isn’t easy for Freeze either. With matchups against Vanderbilt and Alabama still remaining, who knows what the future has in store for Freeze? At least for his job security, he’d like to have some support from the administration.
Hugh Freeze banks on vote of confidence, both from AD and fans
Freeze confirmed to the reporters that he hasn’t talked to AD John Cohen about his job as of now. Considering the path Auburn is on, it won’t surprise fans if the program does pull the trigger. But Freeze still hoped for some backing from Cohen: a vote of confidence. “It’d be huge,” he told the press. “That would make everyone feel a lot better, for sure,” he added.
Coaching records aside, even the locker room under Freeze’s leadership is seeing a hostile environment. Captain Damari Alston has left Auburn. Essentially, the whole program has begun to cave in on itself, and has straight up adopted a losing culture now. James Franklin was fired for letting down a program that he himself built standards for. Hugh Freeze isn’t in that position. But he is adamant that change is coming to the program. “We just haven’t gotten over the hump in a very difficult stretch of games, but I believe that’s coming very, very soon.

“I want a chance to fix this,” Freeze also said. Those opportunities have come for Auburn numerous time this season now. But what good is another chance going to do when so many others were wasted? We will only be seeing Freeze in the long run if he pulls off an absolute miracle in the remaining games of this season.
