Looks like the Tar Heels just pulled the ultimate cheat code—Bill Belichick! But wait, there’s a plot twist. The acquisition of the GOAT by UNC to turn their fortunes around following a difficult season with 6 losses seems like the beginning of a dynasty. The man, with six championship rings and remarkable play-calling abilities, is set to take over UNC’s team to greater heights in 2025. However, it would be a bummer to expect his presence at the Fenway Bowl for now. While Freddie Kitchens is running the show, Belichick’s absence has fans buzzing: Does the magic start now or later?

It’s for sure that the coaching maestro for UNC, that is, Bill Belichick, is ghosting the Tar Heels’ Fenway Bowl game against UConn. As On3’s Instagram spilled the tea saying, “Bill Belichick will not travel with North Carolina for the Fenway Bowl vs. UConn, ESPN reports❌,” Coach Bill’s absence is a setback; his talent and experience would have been invaluable in strengthening the team. But then it’s also interesting to see the one last go-around of the team before Coach Bill’s era officially begins at UNC.

Well, Belichick’s locked in with UNC starting in 2025 on a fat 5-year, $50M deal, but for now, Freddie Kitchens is holding it down after Mack Brown’s exit. Moreover, Belichick skipped media day and bowl practices, leaving fans curious. As of now, the reason behind Bill Belichick’s absence from the Bowl game is that he doesn’t want to be a distraction for the team. But having him would have helped them big time. As UNC’s AD told ESPN’s Pete Thamel, “He’s totally dialed into building the roster. He didn’t want to go to practice or be a distraction to the kids or the coaches for the bowl game.”

However, even if Bill Belichick will not be a part of North Carolina’s bowl game, he is already planning some big things for the team. There is a rumor swirling around Quinn Ewers possible entry to the team. That’s a big thing in itself, but how can Coach Bill stop just at that? There’s something big on its way.

Bill Belichick’ making big moves for UNC

What’s your perspective on:

Will Bill Belichick's magic touch turn UNC into a college football powerhouse by 2025?

Have an interesting take?

Now let’s be honest: a six-time Super Bowl-winning coach will obviously not play all his cards at once. Coach Belichick’s entry into the team will not only change North Carolina’s fate, but can also make them one of the strongest teams in the nation. However, that’s still a dream for the team, but Coach Bill knows how to make dreams a reality. A few days back there were rumors that he was going to get his son Steve Belichick aboard as a defensive coordinator for the team, and bang, he did it. But the real deal is that only Steve’s presence in the team will not help them land talented players on the sidelines. With NIL and transfer portals coming into the scene, it’s tough to gain young recruits’ trust.

With that in mind, Coach Belichick decided to bring back the recruiting phenom for UNC. Confused? Well, it’s director of player personnel Taylor Edwards who was fired by South Carolina this past summer on the charges of NCAA policy violations. That’s a really big, risky move. But despite all the drama and a controversial departure from the Gamecocks, there is no way anyone can deny the fact that Edwards is a recruiting genius, and at this moment UNC needs him the most. All thanks to his extraordinary knowledge of the ever-changing NCAA environment in this NIL era.

Moreover, Taylor Edwards and head coach Shane Beamer turned South Carolina’s fate and swiftly turned it into a powerhouse in the SEC. Now coach Bill Belichick quickly noticed that and understood that getting Edwards into the team would be the right move despite his turbulent past. Let’s just wait and see if trying to get Edwards into the team will be the right decision or a risky move for a coach who is just about to enter CFB for the first time.
