Ryan Day‘s 2025 roster is getting better and better with each passing day. It looks jam-packed with talent, enough to carry on their successes from last year. The HC has lost players to the NFL, but he’s also gaining a key talent. This player is a crucial addition that will help boost the WR room significantly. His addition is also a testament to OC Brian Hartline‘s success in shaping great wide receivers. He also scored a personal victory of his own, adding another feather to his and the HC’s cap.

The Buckeyes‘ WR room currently hosts one of the best WRs in CFB as of now, Jeremiah Smith. Ohio State is known for consistently producing high-rated WRs, and is one of the bests in college football. Smith will receive support in depth from talents Carnell Tate and Brandon Iniss. However, Ryan Day can always look to add more great prospects to continue his streak of producing an elite WR room. His latest recruit might help do just that.

Four-star WR Kayden Dixon-Wyatt announced his commitment to Ohio State, who was a prime target for USC and Oregon as well. A 4-star prospect out of Mater Dei, the WR comes with a total of 1260 yards and 11 touchdowns. He will be joining teammate Chris Henry Jr. too, who committed to the program recently as well. The arrival of the duo finally breaks the Mater Dei drought at OSU. Hartline himself was running the recruitment campaign for him, which is now seeing its results.

“If you want to be an elite receiver, you go to Ohio State,” Dixon Wyatt said after announcing his commitment. “It’s obviously a no-brainer. Coach (Brian) Hartline and all the guys, really good,” he explained as the drive that pushed him to choose Ryan Day instead of USC or Oregon. Lincoln Riley, however, managed to score Elbert Hill, a top target for the OSU, hours before Dixon-Wyatt announced his commitment. That’s quite the tit-for-tat Day got to play at Riley.

All of this has been possible because of Brian Hartline, the star of the show. The Buckeyes’ OC is primarily known for his strengths in training the receivers, for which he has now received another resounding victory.

Is Brian Hartline the secret weapon behind Ohio State's WR success, or just riding a lucky wave?

Hartline has a personal victory at OSU, too. With Emeka Egbuka over at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as No. 19, he becomes the coach’s 5th such player to go as a first-round pick in drafts. The other four are Garrett Wilson, Jaxon-Smith Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Chris Olave. Wilson and Olave went in the 2022 draft together, too. This is a role Hartline’s held since 2018, and he continues to deliver the strongest WR rooms in CFB year after year.

Of this elite group, Hartline regards Harrison Jr. as his best so far, per his appearance on Bussin’ With The Boys. The player comes with the legacy of Marvin Harrison, a Pro Football Hall of Fame WR. “The only reason why I feel very comfortable saying that is because Chris and Garrett chose him as well,” the OC said. Maybe coming close to him would be Jeremiah Smith, who is easily one of the best returning players in college football as of now.

Smith looks good to as another first-round pick in future drafts as well. Hartline’s impact in coaching WRs is worth noting, as Dixon-Wyatt alluded to it in a fun photo he uploaded after announcing his commitment. It showed the OC with a cigar, implying his elite status in producing some of the best WRs in the country. With Smith and another strong WR room in two, can Hartline repeat this success in the draft once more?
