Bryce Underwood, a highly regarded QB from Belleville High School, feels compelled to honor his high school former coach. Under that coach’s guidance, Underwood flourished, helping Belleville win multiple state championships. And he earned national recognition as one of the top recruits in the Class of 2025. However, Underwood didn’t honor the former coach for the QB’s success. But the nation’s top 2025 QB recruit celebrates the old coach’s most recent accomplishment.
Underwood’s most recent IG story depicted Jermain Crowell as the former coach. He has been employed in River Rouge, Michigan, following the end of a 2-year coaching prohibition. To commemorate Crowell’s significant accomplishment, Underwood sent an energetic message in just six words: “LETS GO COACH!!!!! YO STORY DIFFERENT.” In addition to reflecting a solid player-coach relationship, it also shows it takes a lot to achieve.

Crowell was sacked before the 2022 state finals. The MHSAA concluded that Crowell had broken the undue influence regulation. And due to the fact that he was suspended until the 2025 season. “I want people to know you didn’t hear me contest their decision because some of the things they accused me of, I did. I did pick up and drop off because they had no other way,” stated the former coach at that time. But what about his career stats?
Crowell became Belleville’s head coach in 2015. He guided the team to a stellar record during his time there. And in 2021 and 2022, they won Division 1 state titles under his guidance. Safe to say, he had an outstanding 86-10 record throughout his 8 seasons at Belleville. Pretty good numbers! As of now, he gets the chance to rejoin. But this time with Rouge.
In addition to honoring his former coach’s milestone, Belleville’s QB is thrilled about his upcoming adventure to Michigan. But considering his high school accomplishments, the question is whether he will start at QB1.

Will Bryce Underwood be the QB1?
Bryce Underwood led Belleville to its first state championship in the MHSAA in 2021 during his first season. He had a monster year: nearly 2900 passing yards, 39 TD passes, and six more TDs rushing. And he was selected the Michigan Associated Press Division 1-2 Player of the Year and the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year. In the years that followed, Bryce excelled and took home awards.

As of now, the Wolverines were desperate for a Messiah to restore their reputation. And Underwood was chosen to meet that need. They made sure that feelings were returned. Sherrone Moore gets his man after spending upwards of $10 million on NIL money. To improve the atmosphere within and around the program, Underwood’s entrance is like a legendary creature coming down from the sky to Ann Arbor.
But it is not a good idea to put a true freshman at QB1. No doubt, Underwood is a talented athlete, but the pressures of this blueblood school may be too much for his young shoulders to bear. Hence, it was crucial to have a backup plan. And especially in view of the quarterbacking controversies of 2024. Mikey Keene’s services have thus been obtained by Moore through the transfer site.
The veteran has previously gone through two different programs and has passed for a total of 8,245 yards and 65 touchdowns throughout his time in college. In and around Ann Arbor, it’s widely assumed that Keene will be QB1 for 2025, at least initially. But come September, Underwood might still get hired and end up at the bottom of the depth chart.
