The Georgia Bulldogs are 3-1 after their first loss against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 5 of college football. It was the home game of the Bulldogs, yet they struggled right from the beginning. They let Alabama convert all eight third downs for two touchdowns before they even started their play. The Bulldogs were never able to recover from the deficit and lost the game by 21-24. With this, Georgia under Kirby Smart has a 1-7 record against Alabama.

Before their game against Alabama, Coach Smart made a big decision to cut off media availability to lower the team’s workload. Jordan D. Hill of Dawgs 247 reported on X that Kirby Smart or their players will no longer be available for the Tuesday press conferences, confirming the implementation of his statement. “No media availability for Kirby Smart or players after practice tonight,” Hill wrote.
No media availability for Kirby Smart or players after practice tonight. Smart had already told us he was done talking every Tuesday, but I don’t understand why no players are being made available. All that cutting back access does is leave the fans less informed

He remembered that Coach Smart had already said in the preview game press conference against Alabama. “Smart had already told us he was done talking every Tuesday, but I don’t understand why no players are being made available.” He worried that cutting the player’s media access would “leave the fans less informed.” This tweet spun the Bulldog nation into two.
Georgia insider, Radi Nabulsi, responded to the tweet, “Less transparency when the team is struggling is never a good sign…” He then debated with others, “They don’t have to talk after practice. They can talk at noon like they used to. This isn’t hard. They aren’t losing practice or film time talking to the press. Those availabilities do not overlap with meeting or practice times.” Another fan wrote, “I agree that [decision] is not good.”

Bulldog Nation stands with Kirby Smart’s decision
Most of the fans stand with the coach Kirby Smart’s decision not to show up for Tuesday’s Press Conference. One fan claimed that they only get basic information from the players, and nothing like a breaking surface level. A fan wrote, “To be fair, I’m not sure how informed we can get from players other than hearing they’ve wiped the slate clean and are looking ahead to the next game. Don’t usually get analysis from Kirby Smart athletes that comes anywhere close to breaking surface level.” So, he thinks that the decision is right.

A die-hard Georgia fan claimed that if being less informed means better results, he accepts the coach’s decision. The fan wrote, “What if: Less informed fans = better prepared players? If that’s the actual tradeoff and result, I am all for it. Win games on Saturdays, keep recruiting going, and I’d bet most fans won’t care if you talk less on weekdays.” Someone else believes that it will manage the team’s time in fixing things – “Less talking to media who all only want to generate clicks BTW, and more time fixing the team….sounds like better time management to me…”
One fan, who didn’t care about the presser, wrote, “No… no one outside of media employees cares. There’s not a single fan who goes ‘dang one less weekly presser. Not one.” A fan defends the coach’s mindset, writing, “I don’t normally defend the coach on these, but I wouldn’t wanna talk Saturday night, Monday, then Tuesday. Seems kinda pointless lol.” Well, Georgia will take on the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend (October 4), without a press conference. We need to wait and watch how cutting the media availability helps their on-field game.
