Week 9 of college football had some unforgettable games. South Carolina came close to beating Alabama, Ole Miss won against Oklahoma, and Texas beat LSU, to name a few. Greg McElroy, of ESPN, would be happy with his predictions coming true. But for some reason, he just can’t seem to predict correctly against a certain team from the Big 12. And now, he has finally decided to drop his ‘agenda’ against this side.

The team in question is Kalani Sitake’s BYU, who won (again) this week. This time, the Cougars ran rampant against Iowa State, coming out on top with a 41-27 scoreline. The victory meant another Greg McElroy BYU prediction coming wrong, leading the analyst to stop predicting against the Cougars.
“I’m not picking against BYU anymore. I’m done with it. Absolutely done with it because I’m sitting there thinking, like, all right, this is it. This will be the one,” was what Greg McElroy said after the Iowa State-BYU game on the 26th October episode of Always College Football.

Greg had predicted BYU to lose the game and end their winning streak. And things were looking up for him when the Cyclones had a pretty 24-10 lead in the second quarter. But BYU responded in a big way, holding Iowa State to just 3 points and scoring 31 points in the second half. QB Bear Bachmeier had an outstanding performance at Jack Trice, finishing the game with a 62.86% passing completion rate for 307 yards and 3 TDs (two passing, one rushing).

BYU refused to give up despite the 10-24 deficit, and this never-say-die attitude really impressed Greg McElroy. “This team just refuses to go away. They refuse to give up. It does not matter. You could put them in a four-touchdown hole. It won’t make a difference. Like, BYU will punch until the clock is at zero, no matter what. So remarkably impressive.” McElroy expressed. That has been the case for BYU this season, which has looked unstoppable at times. Even when they are behind, BYU has turned around the scores, similar to the Iowa State game.
In their game against the Colorado Buffaloes, the Cougars came back from a 0-14 point deficit and won the game 24-21. Against Utah last week, BYU was out-gained in total yards by over 100 yards. But that didn’t stop BYU from winning the Holy War, clutching the game in another 24-21 fashion.

Despite their unbeaten streak and never-give-up attitude, why does Greg McElroy bet against BYU every game week? His reasoning appears to be BYU’s tendency to consistently put itself in unfavorable positions. “‘I’ll admit, like I don’t really trust them because they continue to get in these holes. They continue to get themselves into difficult spots, but I just love them. They are just so dang resilient. It’s highly impressive,” admitted McElroy.
McElroy makes a good point, though. Despite eight victories in a row, BYU has looked bleak on more than one occasion. They have let their opponents control the game, particularly in the first half. While they have come out on top so far, it is not safe to rely on your team to make a comeback every time.

This doesn’t take away from the fact that BYU has looked nearly invincible for the majority of the season so far.
With 8 wins in a row, BYU looks unstoppable in the Big 12
BYU has risen as one of the teams to look out for in the Big 12. With their recent win against Iowa State, the Cougars have an 8-0 record, with five of them coming against Big 12 opponents. They have developed a solid rushing attack, with a true freshman Bear Bachmeier at the center.

Bachmeier has looked good in these eight games, having a 62.7% pass completion rate for 1386 yards and 9 TDs. He has also been contributing to the rushing aspect, with 82 carries for 359 rushing yards, alongside 8 rushing TDs. However, Bachmeier’s recent injury against Iowa State may keep him out next game.
The QB said it was “nothing more than a bruise,” but sometimes those bruises can affect your gameplay. BYU fans will be hoping the injury is as light as Bachmeier said. With only 4 games left in the regular season, it becomes more important for the QB to be fit.
With Bachmeier, the BYU offense has averaged around 35.6 points per game, meaning their rushing attack is a key driver for BYU’s success. This is the main reason why BYU has looked unstoppable this season. Their perfect record makes them one of the five teams still unbeaten this season in the Power 4.
