Who said games like Tennessee and UAB won’t be intense? The Vols seem to be cruising in this game, but the Blazers are heating things up off the field. One UAB player was in a fiery mood as he picked a small tiff with a Tennessee star. Officials let the culprit off with a slap on the wrist, but more action might be coming for him after the game. Fans, however, have already sounded their verdict on the shameful act.

UAB safety Sirad Bryant seemingly ran into Jackson Ross and stepped onto kicker Max Gilbert’s feet after the 1 quarter. Bryant was caught red-handed on the camera; there’s no two ways about this controversial move. Ross ran after Bryant on the field for a while, by which time officials had dropped 3 flags on the field. The UAB safety was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct but did not face an ejection from the game. The incident happened after Gilbert scored a PAT. Tennessee had racked up 21 points by then.

The action is a bad mark on UAB football, considering Sirad Bryant is a veteran. Last season, he hauled in 60 tackles. Clearly, he doesn’t need a fresh telling of the rules. This wasn’t even the first scuffle between the two teams. UAB’s Donald Lee was ejected in the first quarter of the game for targeting. Tennessee has amassed well over 40 points now, and UAB just can’t seem to get things going. The frustration seems to be breaking past its limits in the wrong ways for the Blazers.

Fans, however, didn’t hold back in their criticism of the controversial action. After all, Sirad Bryant clashed with 2 players at once, so it’s definitely going to invite some fire. Though officials have already ruled that an ejection isn’t going to follow for this action, the community still wants Bryant out.

Fans lead charge for harsh action against Sirad Bryant

“This should have resulted in an ejection,” one fan wrote on X, loud and clear. After Bryant stepped on Max Gilbert‘s foot, the kicker doubled down in pain. The act is even more controversial since Bryant purposely inflicted this damage on a kicker, who will need his foot to do his job. Gilbert is also a veteran at Knoxville and has had a 100% rate when it came to PAT attempts so far in his career. The UAB safety invited the hate on himself for his act.

I’m dead serious, the @NCAA should have veto rights and be able to strip scholarships for something like this. There’s 0 room for that at any level of the game,” another fan wrote. Officials have carried on with the game since the incident, and let off with Bryant without ejecting him. This act will surely come up in discussions after the game. We wonder if the NCAA or the conference will be forced to take action on it to avoid further repercussions.

“Punishment for flagrant behavior like this should include ejection from the game, college, AND even criminal charges. These young men are role models for kids who want to be where they are someday. ‘I don’t want to be a role model.’ Not your choice. Model the behavior you want to see in others,” another fan argued passionately. UAB coach Trent Dilfer will surely be pressed about this incident after the game. Bryant’s action, unfortunately, pushed an already struggling program towards more bad rap.

Are college athletes like Sirad Bryant failing as role models, or are fans overreacting?

Hey @UAB_FB, this dirty s— is beneath you. Have some class and take this a– beating you’re about to receive with a smile on your face,” an angry fan shared. Tennessee sure isn’t letting up on the Blazers, who are being stifled in this game. The orange and white are likely going to have the last laugh, while Sirad Bryant may be looking at some trouble for his actions.
