On Saturday’s nail-biting contest, Diego Pavia handed Auburn its sixth loss of the season. The Commodores trailed by 10 by the third quarter and required overtime to win 38-45. But the star of the night was not the Vandy QB; it was the Tigers’ Cole Coleman. The WRs had college football drooling over his one-handed, ridiculous catch. Despite this, David Pollack has a concerning verdict on the player and the program.

If I watch this game, and I’m somewhere else in the country, and I’m a really good program, and I have a really good quarterback. I’m going to get Cam Coleman. No, I’m going to get Cam,” David Pollack said on his show See Ball Get Ball. It all unfolded in the fourth quarter. The score read 38-30 in Vanderbilt’s favor. With less than 6 minutes left on the clock, on 1st & 10, Daniels threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Coleman straight into the end zone.
Vanderbilt defensive back Martel Height had almost closed in on the WR, but a ridiculous left-handed TD catch by Coleman and the Tigers’ faithful jumped from their seats. Auburn went for a two-point conversion, bumping the score to 38-38, to tie the game. “I don’t know why… he’s got to be number one on the board when it comes to transfer portal receivers,” the analyst added to his argument.

For a program that has been struggling all over the season, Pollack apologized for his Coleman take, but shrugged off looking at his explosiveness. “….the play he made to tie the game when he didn’t see the ball,” was as impressive as it could get. He continued by saying, “The sucker couldn’t see the ball. He had a defender coming through one-handed. So now it’s 3638. They got to go for two, and they just throw it to him again, and he one hands it again to tie the game. Like unbelievable. Cam Coleman’s just unbelievably good,” Pollack concluded.
According to a report by Chris Hummer, retaining Coleman will be Auburn’s next head coach’s top priority, but it won’t be easy. Coming off five losses and the head coach fired, the Auburn Tigers emerged from locker room chaos, taking on No. 15 Vanderbilt in Nashville. DJ Durkin’s message was clear. “Cut the distractions.” Taking the lead in the first half, it seemed Auburn was ready to win its 5th game of the season.

Ashton Daniels threw a 14-yard TD pass and ran for another 11 yards to dominate the game. Following two field goals, the Tigers had the upper hand. 17-10. But Vanderbilt was quick to pick up the pace. With two touchdowns in the third quarter, Pavia had nearly closed the lead, 24-23. But with less than 2 minutes left in the quarter, Ashton Daniels ran for a 16-yard touchdown, tilting the scales back in Auburn’s favor. However, in a classic Diego Pavia grit, the Commodores’ QB was running for his life to avoid another Texas flashback.
His 7-yard run down the stretch, followed by another 9-yard TD run by Sedrick Alexander, made for a thrilling contest. Vanderbilt was 38-30. However, Auburn was yet to call it a day. With the iconic Cam Coleman catch, the play went to overtime. Pavia threw a 4-yard TD pass and won, 45-38. With that, retaining Cam Coleman has become Auburn’s first priority.

Is Cam Coleman Ryan Day’s next target?
Before Saturday’s game, Cam Coleman had been trending across college football. Last week, CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer wrote, “Transfer portal season is quickly approaching, and there is no potentially bigger prize than Auburn WR Cam Coleman. He’s priority No. 1 for Auburn’s next coach to retain. But that may be an uphill battle.” Coming off behind Jeremiah Smith, Coleman appears to be a promising wide receiver that Brian Hartline might be interested in.
Hummer further added that, “One industry source even speculated that Coleman could play with (Jeremiah) Smith at Ohio State if Carnell Tate leaves for the NFL.” With Hugh Freeze fired from Auburn, the Buckeyes might make a move. “…or pair up with DJ Lagway and Dallas Wilson at Florida. Oregon, Ole Miss, Georgia, Notre Dame, and every other contender would be happy to pay Coleman, too.”

Over the course of the season, Coleman has recorded 474 yards on 37 receptions, scoring three touchdowns. His stock was already up, but after Saturday’s iconic catch, it has skyrocketed. Will Coleman enter the transfer portal? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
