Drafted in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL draft, Cam Skattebo is now making those 32 NFL teams regret their decision. He rolled back his Texas performance from last year and rushed for 98 yards for three incredible touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles for the New York Giants. The performance has now given more fuel to an already raging debate about teams overlooking Skattebo in the initial rounds of the draft. One such furious voice is FOX’s Dave Portnoy’s.

Portnoy appeared from Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois, where the Fighting Illini are facing Ohio State. The FOX analyst and Barstool Sports founder ranted on how the NFL front office folks get things massively wrong many times. “Well, today’s rant is about the morons in the front offices in the NFL, and people think you have to somehow an official job to know Ball. That’s wrong. Cam Skattebo,” said Portnoy. He then went on to describe how NFL GMs must be regretting not taking Skattebo in the first round.
“We give people too much credit. I knew Skattebo was a great player. He loves football. He’s changed the culture of that team. We sit back with these people who collect paychecks and just assume they know what they’re doing because they watch football. You know who watches more football than they do? Me. With these two eyes,” said a furious Portnoy. While Portnoy’s takes on many things can sometimes be controversial, this time, he is spot on.

We need to stop assuming just because you have a front office job you know ball.
The fact that a guy like Cam Skattebo fell to the 4th round is unbelievable @BNKonFOX pic.twitter.com/BmaRLERB6P

Skattebo arguably was one of the best running backs in the country in the 2025 NFL draft. If his 1,711 rushing yards last year weren’t enough, the guy almost sent Steve Sarkisian back to Austin. In the CFP semifinal, Skattebo rushed for a whopping 143 yards for two touchdowns and received another 99 yards. Owing to his performances, the game went into overtime, and Skttebo’s ASU lost 31-39 narrowly. But unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to convince the NFL GMs.

“I watch everything every game, and I’m sick of people not believing you go to the combine. Oh, he’s got to run this, he’s got to jump this. The guy is a winner. Loves football. Bangs his head into brick walls. Start trusting people like me. Cam Skattebo. How did he ever get to the 4th round?” said Portnoy. The only thing lacking probably in Cam Skattebo’s resume was a solid NFL Combine performance.
Skattebo garnered a 16th rank in the 2025 NFL combine in the athleticism score. He had a 39.5″ vertical jump and a 10’3″ broad jump and didn’t run other drills. Despite that athleticism rank, his production score was still the second-best in the country. Moreover, he was second too, in total score with 88 points. But even with that, the NFL graded him to be a “good backup with the potential to develop into a starter,” something that became detrimental in his resume. But now, Skattebo is wreaking havoc just in his rookie season.

Cam Skattebo’s father sends a special message after his son’s incredible outing
Giants took former Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart in the first round and Abdul Carter at 3rd overall. So far, all their bets have borne fruit since Dart has already become QB1. And Abdul Carter has accumulated 13 tackles so far in the season. As for Skattebo, he has already notched up 338 rushing yards along with 155 receiving yards. That also included his exceptional performance against the Eagles.
“Great night for football. #ProudMoment @camskattebo5,” wrote Skattebo’s father on his X account. He also shared some pictures from the game in his post. In one of them, Skattebo can be seen giving the ball to his father before the father-son duo posed for pictures. It was a gesture that will live eternally for Skattebo and, of course, his family, as he continues to wreak havoc in the NFL. As for the NFL GMs, the RB position itself is seen to be less enticing to be taken in the first round.
