Carson Beck has had enough of a tumultuous season. The QB phenom set a record for throwing the most interceptions in a single game in early November and paid the price. The internet pundit didn’t leave a chance to tear him apart online. However, Beck took it all with a smile and turned his fate around later in the season. But the success remained short-lived. During a high-flying SEC Championship game against the Texas Longhorns, Beck got down with a season-ending right UCL injury. It felt like the universe was signaling the end of his Georgia career. Well, Beck listened to his guts and, after much back and forth, decided to leave for the NFL. But wait, will it backfire as another dopey call by the controversial Georgia kid?
On Saturday, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck dropped a bombshell announcement on his plans to enter the NFL draft within a week of having his elbow surgery. Beck, a fifth-year senior, made his NFL plans official on social media. ”He might have just used his other collegiate year with the Bulldogs or with some other SEC or Big 10, but Beck chose to take a leap of faith with the professional leagues, and not everyone around the globe is buying that idea well. Carson Beck made a bad decision to leave early,” said analyst Todd McShay.

Beck could sling it deep and was deadly accurate from the pocket, but a rough season really hurt his draft stock. His interception-filled matches and the grave UCL injury got the better of his NFL dream. The most recent mock drafts didn’t list Beck as a first-round pick alongside Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward, or Jalen Milroe. But Beck still jumped onto it, which is pretty rash as per the pundits.
McShay said, ‘‘I texted a bunch of guys in the league—GMs, former GMs, scouts. One scout wrote back to me, a one-word answer: ‘foolish.’ I thought he got better late in the season, as I said, but I don’t think he’s there yet. Played great in certain moments. I thought he played better late in the season, but he never this year played to the level that we, that many of us, expected him to play to.”
Beck will miss Georgia’s CFP run that is set to kick-start this Wednesday as the prodigy recovers from successful surgery. But he will still be the cornerstone of a boiling team in some way or another.

Beck capped off the season with 3,485 passing yards and 28 touchdowns to 12 interceptions in 13 appearances. The dawgs are keeping their faith in Redshirt sophomore Gunner Stockton, who couldn’t be more excited and nervous at the same time to kickstart his career in Beck’s shoes.
The Rabun County High School (Ga.) alumna got his mojo tested in one play of the second half in the overtime win against the Longhorns, completing 12-of-16 passes for 71 yards and an interception. So, there’s a long path to prove and get the job done. And you better believe he can do it because he is learning it from the best.
“He’s [Beck] been there for Gunner throughout,” Smart said. “He’s supported Gunner, had multiple conversations with him. Looking forward to having him with us for this game.”

Beck had previously disappeared from the team after the SEC title game to take care of his health. Now, as he is healing, it’s expected he will join the party for a potential playoff run, maybe not to play but to cheer on from the sidelines.
