Our hearts and prayers stand with the victims of Florida affected by Hurricane Milton! This category 5 storm traveling at a speed of 165 mph has been labeled as an “extremely life-threatening situation” by the National Hurricane Center, already claiming several lives. In this time of crisis, college football stars and close ones have chimed in to offer support to the affected people, including Georgia QB Carson Beck’s girlfriend Hanna Cavinder.
In an Instagram post shared by cavindertwins on October 11, Hanna Cavinder appeared in a video with her twin Haley to announce that they’re using their 329K follower platform to raise relief funds for those facing the wrath of Hurricane Milton. They also posted pictures of the aftermath of the disaster in Fort Myers Beach where their grandparents live. Their empathy and contribution to the circumstances by donating money to ‘FMB Strong’ earned the respect of Carson Beck’s mother Tracy who commented, “Love your heart ladies.”

It’s very unfortunate to get hit by a severe storm just days after Helene. Hours before this video, Hanna Cavinder also penned down a heartfelt prayer for the suffering people which she posted on her IG story. In a letter to God, she prayed that he “cover those that are being affected by this hurricane” and to “keep each and everyone experiencing this hurricane safe and sound.”

This natural disaster emergency in Florida has also affected the college football schedule. Miami and Florida State have bye weeks in Week 7 but Florida, UCF, and USF have scheduled games against Tennessee, Cincinnati, and Memphis, respectively. And just hours ago, it was announced that the USF vs Memphis game on October 13 will be moved to Orlando. Now, in the midst of this catastrophe, college football QBs have also come up with noble ideas to help the victims in need.
Cam Ward and DJ Lagway put NIL to good use
With Milton raging on, Miami’s Cam Ward and Florida’s DJ Lagway came up with a unique way to raise funds for the victims. Using their NIL benefits with Leaf, a trading card company, the two QBs are selling trading cards which will become available on October 17. All earnings will go to the Florida Disaster Fund to aid the needy.

There’s undoubtedly going to be lots of interested buyers not just because of the charity behind it, but also because they’re among the best QBs in college football. Cam Ward is leading an undefeated 6-0 team as a potential Heisman Trophy winner. DJ Lagway has already impressed Florida with his impressive 45-7 win in Week 2. In addition to these two players, support also came in from Colorado HC Deion Sanders who also sent a heartfelt message to the affected people. We raise prayers that Florida citizens remain safe in times of a grim natural disaster such as this.
