Kaidon Salter might have experience on his back coming in from Georgia Tech, but his rookie mistakes are creating big problems for his team. Colorado’s fate is taking a weird turn with each passing week. After three weeks of quarterback shuffling between Julian Lewis, Ryan Staub, and Kaidon Salter, Deion Sanders finally made up his mind about who will go against BYU. It was Salter. Despite putting up strong numbers, going in for 11 of 16 passes for 119 yards with two touchdowns, a costly interception made things worse for Colorado. The result? They ended up losing to the Cougars despite a 14-0 lead in the game. Now against TCU the inconsistencies are showing up again, and a Buffs reporter is already urging for a change.

Kaidon Salter had to get benched for two games before he could show his potential against Wyoming. In that game he completed 18 of 28 passes for 304 yards with three touchdowns. He even showed his dual-threat ability with his 86 yards of rushing and a 35-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Final score: 37-20. With that win, Salter sealed his name as Buffs QB1, improving their record to 2-2. Even coach Prime couldn’t hold back his praise for him as he said, “Kaidon Salter came back and played his butt off.”

But their loss against BYU just made things hard for him. Now coming to Week 6 against TCU Salter went off the rails by throwing 3 interceptions. And that’s exactly why Colorado’s reporter Brian Howell is making a switch demand on X: “Kaidon Salter with 3 INT tonight, 2 of them in the last 2 minutes of the half. Not even kidding, if I’m CU, I consider making Ryan Staub the 2-minute QB. That was brutal #cubuffs.” Now, after his costly late second-quarter interception, TCU tied the game against the Buffs, going 14-14.

Let’s not forget that despite inconsistencies, Kaidon Salter showed resilience and grit. He led two touchdown drives and even completed 6 straight passes on a single drive, throwing a touchdown pass to Omarion Miller. Then, showing his dual-threat ability, Salter even rushed for a touchdown, which put Colorado to a 14-0 lead. Despite those two turnovers, he completed the first half with 9 completions on 15 attempts for 115 yards.

Ryan Staub might look like a better option right now, but let’s not forget that even his inconsistencies were put on display against the Houston Cougars. In their 36-20 loss, Staub threw for 204 yards with a touchdown and just averaged 5.8 yards per attempt. The worst part is he threw two interceptions in the game. It looks like Deion Sanders needs to find an accurate passer. This means giving Julian Lewis a chance in the game. He is the wildcard that has shown flashes of brilliance.

Kaidon Salter gets major NIL deal

Kaidon Salter’s QB1 position might come under serious threat after the Week 6 game against TCU. But along with the on-field pressure, he’s also making big moves off it. That’s right, this week Salter revealed his major NIL deal with Meritrust Credit Union. Speaking of the reason behind his deal with this company, Salter said, “Why did I partner with Meritrust? Because they help me achieve my goals, on and off the field. They make a difference for their members and communities every day.” It’s the influence and impact that lead Salter to be a part of this NIL partnership.

It also reflects his alignment with the rapidly growing college sports world. His net worth as it currently sits, is at $696k. This ranks him the third highest among all Colorado players. That’s a massive achievement. Now, it will be interesting to see if the same continues in the future or if Salter’s inconsistent playmaking will also impact his off-field success.
