The year keeps getting worse for Coach Prime. First, he lost his talented players to the NFL. Then cancer hit him, keeping Deion Sanders away from Boulder for months. And now a team that was singing songs of its massive 9-4 turnaround last year is stuck with a 2-4 record and low morale. Inconsistencies on both sides of the ball made things worse for the Buffs, and finishing up the game has become a major issue for them. It happened with both BYU and TCU. Deion Sanders’ team couldn’t double down and blew 14-0 leads in both games. The result? Hopelessness. Tawfiq Byard’s plea, and Kaidon Salter’s rants are just exposing the cracks within that locker room.

The Buffs took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter after Salter threw a pass to Omarion Miller. He then doubled down on that momentum and rushed for 10 yards, helping the team score another touchdown. The Buffs were leading 14-3 but couldn’t maintain that till the end and lost. And that frustration is pretty evident in Safety Byard’s words as he said after the game, “We gotta finish … It’s the same stuff every week. At this time, players start to think other things … It’s on us as leaders.”
Kaidon Salter, on the other hand, was more than frustrated with his performance in the first quarter, where he threw 3 interceptions. Speaking of it to the media, he said, “I threw three dumb picks … bad decisions by me… I didn’t execute, and I have to do better.” Despite throwing 3 interceptions, he completed 18 of 29 passes for 217 yards with two touchdowns. It’s not like he was bad throughout.

Interceptions have been a problem for Coach Prime’s QBs this season. Remember Salter’s last game against BYU, where, despite putting up an impressive score, he threw a costly interception. Not just him, even Ryan Staub showed inconsistency against Houston, throwing for 204 yards and completing just 19 of 35 passes with one touchdown and two interceptions. It’s pretty clear where the team is lagging, so there’s a chance that Julian Lewis might finally get a chance to show his passing skills against Iowa State.

With those mistakes, even Colorado’s defense couldn’t do much for them. There was no stopping Josh Hoover. He completed 23 of 33 passes for 275 yards with four touchdowns, and zero interceptions. The Buffs defense also allowed TCU to sneak back into the game as they tied up the score to 21-21 in the fourth quarter.
This loss makes Coach Prime’s team situation one of the worst in college football. It’s ironic how this team was ranked 20 in last year’s playoff rankings. But a bad season is not the only setback Deion is facing.
Coach Prime backing Shedeur Sanders in tough time
Shedeur Sanders’ NFL career keeps testing his patience, and sometimes even the viewers’. First he went into the Cleveland Browns as a 5th round pick, where Dillon Gabriel was already drafted. Then despite making notable moves in the offseason, Shedeur couldn’t move up in the QB depth rankings. But the worst is yet to come. After Joe Flacco’s inconsistent performance in four games, throwing just two touchdowns against six interceptions, Kevin Stefanski took the bold step of benching the old vet.

Now that surely opens the gate for other QBs. But instead of taking Shedeur, they gave the chance to Gabriel. Despite a major setback, Shedeur decided not to speak about it in public or make any statements. In fact, he proceeded to mime his answers, stupefying the reporters. It looked like it was a subtle jab at Rex Ryan, who made a critical comment on Sanders “running his mouth.” It’s pretty clear that even if Sanders decides not to speak, it becomes a problem.
But Coach Prime couldn’t let this jab slide easily, as he fired back on his IG, saying, “Good one, son,” with laughing and crying emojis. But even that wasn’t acceptable to people, as Emmanuel Acho criticized his move, saying, “The reason I hate this is because I do not want to positively reinforce something that is negatively impacting Shedeur…” In this video, what Shedeur did today is going to negatively impact him.” Whatever might be the situation, Coach Prime will always back his sons. But it’s yet to be seen how he backs his team in the coming weeks.
