Dark Days Ahead of Scott Frost as Analysts Make Tough Revelation About UCF Knights’ Football Future

The latest weather report is in, and there is a frost warning on the horizon for any teams on the UCF Knight 2025 schedule. Let’s go from the worst to the best, shall we? Imagine doing such a bad coaching job that you have to quit and go to FLORIDA STATE. That too as an OC. This is the scene for the former UCF Knights HC, Gus Malzahn. The Knights ended their season with a 4-8 upset. No Bowl games for these guys. It kind of makes you wonder how you can be this bad when you have one of the best QB x RB duos in all of college football. But then, all bad things must come to an end so the good can prevail.

Enter Scott Frost. UCF dropped the news that Frost is coming back as the new UCF HC on a 5-year contract. Now, on the surface, this will sound like an amazing idea, but Jake Crain doesn’t think it’s going to work out. “You’ve won there before. You could do it again, but I don’t think he’s gonna win at that level,” Crain pointed out on Crain & Company. There are many layers to this. If you didn’t know, Frost coached the Knights from 2016 to 2017, and this was arguably one of the best eras in UCF football. They had a massive 13-0 run and managed to snag the No.6 spot on the AP polls.

Not only that. Frost was crowned the coach of the year. The entire 2 seasons he was at UCF, he managed to land a 19-7 run. But then he had to leave the boys to go and coach in Nebraska. That’s a whole other story, though, especially since he was fired just three games into the 2022 season. After that, he stayed out of coaching for the rest of the year and spent the next season with the Los Angeles Rams’ staff. Talk about an impressive bounce back!

Now, as he returns to college football—back to UCF, no less—it’s a whole new ball game. This era of college football won’t be as easy as the glory days of 2016 or 2017. The main problem is the transfer portal. Take that 4-8 season and mix it with your HC dropping their resignation, and you get a mass transfer scenario.

UCF is going to lose more than 15 players to the transfer portal, and out of them, some key players are WR Xavier Townsend, EDGE Nyjalik Kelly, and CB Chasen Johnson. The overall list is long, and it completely breaks down the Knights’ offensive and defensive strength. Frost is taking up a broken team, and it will fall on him to fix all of it. Can he do it?

A way forward for the Knights and Scott Frost

The most important part would be covering the RB and QB positions. See, QB KJ Jefferson is off with the NFL drafts. This means the Knights will lose their 2-way quarterback, and this would set them back quite a bit. Now, adding insult to injury is the fact that QB EJ Colson is hitting the transfer portal. That 28-14 loss to Utah was something he couldn’t handle.

For the RB room, RJ Harvey is out. One of the best leading rushers in all of college football, and UCF couldn’t even make use of all of his potential. This is just sad. Regardless, one thing to keep in mind is that when Frost was the HC back in 2017, UCF became one of the best offensive teams out there.

No.1 scoring offense with at least 48 points in every single game. This signals a positive shift in the upcoming season. If Frost can bring back the same magic, then UCF might have a massive year in the Big 12. Still, we won’t have our hopes too high. With the disaster Gus has managed to brew, it will take more than a year to fix the spill.
