As the Browns fall 2-7 in the season, even those who aren’t Team Shedeur Sanders are calling for him to take the lead. With the season about to wrap up, the former Colorado QB is yet to see some proper time as QB1. But is there still a chance for Sanders to finally secure his big break? A close friend and mentor threw light on his much-awaited debut.

The 2025 season is now in serious jeopardy for Cleveland. HC Kevin Stefanski has now cycled 2 QBs to get things going, but neither has proved to work. Dillon Gabriel looks nothing like his spellbinding Oregon self, as the offense continues to register low after low. This Sunday, the Browns lost to a Jets team that had traded its best defensive players during the week. Gabriel started the game well, but soon returned to his disappointing self. Boogie Knight, Shdeur Sanders’ mentor, threw light on what grounds the QB will finally get that role.

“My guess is, he’ll eventually get his shot. But not until the team has given up & have nothing left to play for,” he wrote on X. “They’ll hand him the worst situation possible. He’s going to have to step in and roll with a bunch of unmotivated guys who know they are out of playoff contention,” he added.

Many Cleveland fans assumed that Shedeur may get a chance coming off the bye week. But Stefanski stuck to his guns. He announced that Dillon will start against the Jets. Even after the loss to a 1-7 team whose QB Justin Fields threw for only 54 yards, the head coach maintained the stance. Dillon Gabriel will continue to be his starter.

Fortunately for Cleveland, the AFC North has been a mess this year. You have the leader of the conference in the Steelers, who are 5-4. Then, the Ravens are 4-5, followed by the Bengals at 3-6. Mathematically, the 2-7 Browns can still win the conference.

The problem is that Stefanski’s offense continues to be a major concern, despite the changes. Shedeur fans are concerned that when Stefanski finally gives him a chance, Cleveland may not have anything to play for. That’s not good for a quarterback looking to change the narrative.

It’s not what someone with the Sanders name should be faced with, especially since he has become a last hope for his franchise. Stefanski, however, continued to ignore the clarion call behind Shedeur Sanders.

Kevin Stefanski still delaying Sanders’ entry as QB1

After the embarrassing loss to the Jets, Stefanski confirmed to the press that Dillon Gabriel will remain the quarterback. Later, when he was asked about the chances of Shedeur Sanders making his debut, he didn’t have a clear picture. “I don’t think it’s fair to speculate,” Kevin Stefanski told the press about Sanders’ chances of becoming QB1. Even after this embarrassing loss, he’s sticking it out with Dillon Gabriel.

Stefanski could have dodged the question had Shedeur Sanders not grown healthier. The QB is now okay after his back injury, making him a solid candidate in the race. He’s turning up to practice as QB2. However, Cleveland seems to be less than keen on giving Sanders the QB1 role. He didn’t look like the best choice when compared to Dillon Gabriel. But after what we’ve seen so far come from the QB, Shedeur Sanders deserves a shot.

Being under Deion Sanders’ stardom at Colorado was a safe space for Shedeur Sanders. He had the help of his family there. But in the NFL, Sanders has to make a name for himself. He’ll find it extremely difficult to do that when he does get the QB1 role. Looking at the way this situation is panning out for Sanders and the Cleveland offense, we wonder if Stefanski’s last good measure can shake up the league.
