Dillon Gabriel opened his Cleveland Browns career against the Minnesota Vikings with a promising performance despite a tough loss. But it was enough to earn him a Rookie of the Week nomination. Gabriel’s first NFL start was historic. However, not everyone was thrilled about the Browns’ choice. Deion Sanders, father of fellow Browns rookie QB Shedeur Sanders, didn’t exactly take the news well. The Browns’ decision to bench veteran Joe Flacco and go with Gabriel as the starter stirred strong opinions.

The move stirred tension after the Browns pushed Shedeur Sanders, a highly touted fifth-round pick who reportedly shone in preseason, into a backup role. When asked about the decision at a recent press conference, Coach Prime gave a blunt response. “I don’t give a damn about the Browns at all,” Prime said. “I care about the Colorado Buffaloes. [But] I do love me some Shedeur Sanders, don’t believe that. Care about him. The rest of that mess, I don’t, okay? I’m a coach trying to win just like they’re trying to win games, but I couldn’t care less about who they traded.”

The fact is that the Browns lost 21-17 to the Vikings, even then, Gabriel retained the starter position and even earned a nomination fuels the fire in Deion Sanders’ part. Sure, Shedeur has shown flashes of talent. In the game against the Carolina Panthers, he completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and threw two touchdown passes. However, his momentum hit a snag in his second preseason game against the Rams. Sanders faced relentless pressure, being sacked five times and losing 41 yards. But the main problem was how Sanders also held the ball too long on several plays and struggled to get rid of it quickly enough to avoid the sacks.

On the other hand, Gabriel’s preseason performance convinced the Browns he’s ready to lead. In his preseason debut against the Eagles, Gabriel completed 13 of 18 passes for 143 yards. The difference is very much highlighted here itself. His ability to hit in-breaking routes and locate receivers earned praise from coaches. Plus, Shedeur’s oblique injury in week 2 of the preseason delayed his momentum. Based on all these facts, Shedeur not getting the starting job might look frustrating for Coach Prime, but that’s because Shedeur is his son.

On top of that, Prime trained him during Shedeur’s Colorado days. But the problem is a long-standing one. Shedeur carried high hopes when he entered the NFL. But the entire preseason went away with him still finding his footing among the pros. He had a hard time picking up the Browns’ complex playbook and struggled to get his timing right with the receivers. And then back in Colorado, Coach Prime was fighting for his own. Sanders has been dealing with serious health issues during Colorado’s offseason. Lastly, Cancer confirmed Prime had to go through this whole surgery, where his bladder was removed. It was a tough time for the Sanders family.

And now recent intel suggests that Deion Sanders needs to go through yet another surgery.

Deion Sanders’ head coaching woes pile up on his existing problems

It’s not just health and worrying over children’s careers for Deion Sanders. We are forgetting he is still a program’s HC that isn’t really doing well this season. At 2-4 overall and winless (0-3) in Big 12 play, the Buffs are hitting new lows in what’s proving to be an uphill battle for Coach Sanders and his squad. The team was sincerely struggling to find consistency and chemistry through their first six games.

Every game seems to have a spark somewhere, but that remains a spark. The offense has been a big reason for the struggles. Starting QB Kaidon Salter has flashed promise with moments of good play, no doubt. But costly mistakes were also in play. He had three interceptions in the most recent loss to the TCU Horned Frogs. And before that, Sanders even tried an experiment with QB switching against Delaware.

And guess what? Third string QB, Ryan Staub, came out with flying colours, completing 7 out of 10 passes for 157 yards and 2 TDs. But then his momentum was broken against Houston, where he had 2 interceptions. That’s when the trust was again back with Salter. But this constant QB change sparks a major lack of consistency in Boulder, which Coach Prime needs to fix. But his growing health concerns are raising serious questions about his longevity as the head coach.
