In just 2 seasons, Deion Sanders brought the swagger and the wins back to CU. That’s why the Buffs rewarded their star coach with a massive extension through 2029, making him the highest-paid coach in the Big 12. “Coach Prime has revolutionized college football and, in doing so, has restored CU football to our rightful place as a national power,” said AD Rick George. And now, Deion Sanders’ son has spoken—dropping a bold 4-word message on the contract extension.

Deion Sanders just secured the bag—big time. His new five-year, $54 Million deal locks him in (with $10 Million in each of the first 2 seasons, $11 M for the next two, and $12M in the final year). That’s a massive jump from his original five-year, $29.5 M contract from Jackson State. “This extension not only recognizes Coach’s incredible accomplishments transforming our program on and off the field, it keeps him in Boulder to compete for conference and national championships in the years to come,” said George.

However, Coach Prime’s success isn’t just making headlines—it’s also making his family proud. His son, Deion Sanders Jr., wasted no time celebrating the big news. Taking to social media, he kept it short but powerful, writing on X, “It’s a beautiful thing.” No doubt, the Sanders family is soaking in the moment as Deion Sr. cements his legacy in Boulder.

But with big money comes old demands. Last year, Deion Sanders pocketed a $100K bonus after beating Utah. With two games left, he had a shot at another $200K if the Buffs won out. A Big 12 title? That would’ve added another $150K to the mix. But leave it to Coach Prime’s sons—Shedeur and Shilo Sanders—to flip the script. Both were key in CU’s 10-win season, and they couldn’t resist clowning their dad. Taking to social media, they joked about getting their fair share of his bonuses. After all, who’s really making the money moves on the field?

And now, with his new contract, Coach Prime’s incentives are bigger than ever. He’ll cash in $150K if the Buffs win nine games, plus $100K for every win after that. A non-CFP bowl berth? That’s another $150K. A Big 12 title game appearance? Another $150K. But the real money kicks in with the CFP. A berth is worth $400K, and the championship game? That’s $200K. So, if the Buffs win it all, Sanders pockets a cool $250K. But don’t be surprised if Shilo and Shedeur come knocking again, joking that they deserve their cut.

Think Deion Sanders doesn’t deserve the big payday? Just look at Colorado’s transformation—that’s your answer.

Deion Sanders has turned CU football into prime-time entertainment. Since his arrival, 22 of the Buffs’ 24 games have been featured on major networks. Folsom Field is packed like never before, with record-breaking attendance in back-to-back seasons. On top of that, in 2024, CU ranked sixth in national viewership, standing alongside CFB giants like OSU, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Michigan, and more.

But the Prime Effect goes beyond the gridiron. Ticket sales soared from $13 M pre-Sanders to $31.2 million in his first year. Applications to CU have spiked by 20%. And the Buffs’ home games have generated nearly $94 M for Boulder, with a regional impact of $146.5 M. You can say, Coach Prime hasn’t just rebuilt a program—he’s ignited a movement.

John Tayer, president of the Boulder Chamber, put it best, saying, nobody saw this coming. “To be honest, I don’t think that anybody fully was prepared for just how much national and international attention Coach Prime would generate for our community and the economic benefits that it would also engender,” said Tayer. So, the buzz is real, and Deion Sanders hasn’t just put CU on the map—he’s made Boulder a national spectacle.
