Lane Kiffin, the underdog coach from Ole Miss, is still reeling from his team’s Week 5 loss to Kentucky. The Rebels struggled with alignment and execution in that game, ultimately falling 20-17. Now, they face a must-win matchup against South Carolina, who rolled over Akron 50-7. However, Kiffin’s recent comments might give the Gamecocks an advantage.

In a press conference on September 30th, before the South Carolina game, Kiffin accidentally revealed some of the Rebels’ weaknesses exposed in the Kentucky loss. While he was discussing areas for improvement, he inadvertently highlighted specific issues that South Carolina could exploit.
“I already discussed the previous game last night with you guys, you know, the disappointment in that because, as we continued to review it, it just felt like we made more mistakes than them, and they made more critical plays in situations than we did. It was the first time we lost the turnover margin and lost the explosive play battle, so that leads to that.”

Ole Miss’ challenge to maintain a reliable offense was evident during their game against Kentucky. During a critical third-and-10 situation, Rebels’ defensive back Trey Amos was given a penalty for pass interference while he was covering Kentucky’s wide receiver, Dane Key, which immediately resulted in a free first down for the Wildcats.
Despite this, the team had a chance to tie their game against the Wildcats with kicker Caden Davis attempting a 48-yard field goal. But Caden missed the kick, which resulted in a bitter loss for them. Even Rebele’s head coach, Lane Kiffin, couldn’t process their defeat. Let’s see what he said about their poor performance.

Lane Kiffin on Ole Miss Rebels’ poor performance
After Rebel’s defeat to the Wildcats, the team is standing on a 4-1 win-loss score. Their loss was quite surprising for everyone, including their head coach, Lane Kiffin. After their faceoff, he expressed his disappointment towards the team, saying, “Very discouraging outcome,” Kiffin said. “Really disappointed for our fans that I thought really showed up and really good energy in the second half as we took the lead. Just a win that we could’ve come away with. In all areas, we had different chances to do that.”
Given their performance against Kentucky, the disappointment over being scratched from the game was understandable. Kiffin tried to lift their spirits, saying, “Understand that everything you want to do is still there.” Well, despite his efforts, it’s difficult to overlook their underwhelming play.

The Kentucky Wildcats shut down the Ole Miss Rebels’ offense, holding them to just 353 yards. This raised major concerns about the Rebels’ ability to score points. Meanwhile, Ole Miss also struggled with penalties, committing eight in the first half alone, including two crucial third-down penalties that helped set up Kentucky’s first touchdown drive. While quarterback Jaxson Dart completed 18 of 27 passes and ran for 261 yards, he couldn’t make a big impact on the game. Dart was sacked four times, limiting his effectiveness.
