Last May, a former Colorado QB had much to say about Shedeur Sanders and the Buffs. But back then, it felt like just another disgruntled ex-player venting into the void. Fast forward to October 26, and the volume suddenly turned up. The stage couldn’t be bigger as Colorado had just been taken to the cleaners in Salt Lake City. The one-time Buffs backup QB saw the perfect moment to have the last laugh.

Gavin Kuld threw a big warning at Deion Sanders on his Instagram story on October 26. Tagging a screenshot of ESPN’s post showing the Buffs HC fuming at his DC after a disastrous first half, he captioned, “Give [Ryan Staub] a full 4 quarters in just saying. Come Tuesday if he’s not with the ones then there’s a greater motive behind ur coaching philosophy than wanting wants best for the team.” If you think about it, Colorado’s nightmare in Utah didn’t precisely soften Kuld’s stance.

Plain and straightforward, Utah steamrolled the Buffs! The Utes chewed up 75 yards in two plays on the opening drive, and by halftime, it was 43-0. Colorado had -18 yards of total offense. By the final whistle, Kyle Whittingham had mercy and called off the guys, cruising to a 53-7 blowout.

Utah rushed for 422 yards while Colorado managed 38. It was a mismatch and perhaps the lowest point of Deion Sanders’ coaching career. “This is bad,” he admitted. “This is probably the worst beating I’ve ever had except for when my momma whooped me when I was a kid.”

With a 3-5 record and bowl eligibility hanging by a thread, the Buffs now face a brutal stretch – Arizona, at West Virginia, Arizona State, and Kansas State. Deion Sanders refused even to entertain the bowl conversation. “We ain’t thinking about no bowl right now. We’re thinking about this moment. Let’s grade this moment, let’s figure out why this happened, and let’s make sure we caution that it don’t happen again,” he said.

The soul-searching starts now, and some changes in Boulder feel inevitable. As bitter headlines and Instagram jabs surfaced, it was clear this wasn’t Gavin Kuld’s first rodeo with controversy.

Flashback to the MagDogTV firestorm

Before all the Instagram drama, Gavin Kuld had already sparked controversy during his lone season at Colorado. Joining as a walk-on in 2023, he quickly felt like an outsider under Shedeur Sanders.

The second I came in, he told the coaching staff that I would never have a chance to be the backup quarterback and he could never coach me… I sat to try to talk to the four quarterbacks of spring…what you doing, what you reading, you should read this…he was completely mute to me,” Kuld told MagDogTV last May.

Things escalated when a casual NIL question became an opening for a jab at Shedeur. Gavin Kuld didn’t hold back when he said, “Look at Arizona, look at (Noah) Fifita, he did with all his money… look at Colorado, this guy has got six cars and an apartment.” He didn’t use it, but ‘nepo baby’ was the thought floating in the air.

Predictably, Shedeur clapped back on X, saying, “I learned sometimes you have to take the high road. I’ll spare you only this 1 time.” Kuld responded like any blunt ex-player, saying, “Bro, what high road? What are u talking about spare me lol.”

Arizona looms on November 2, and the bigger question isn’t just wins or losses. It’s whether a new face will take snaps at QB, or if the drama continues to define Colorado football.
