Coming into last season, Carson Beck was hailed as one of the nation’s top QBs. He was supposed to go in the first round of the NFL Draft. Yet fate had a cruel plan for him in his last game as a Bulldog. A torn ulnar collateral ligament suffered in the SEC Championship game against Texas turned his life upside down. Beck arrived at Miami carrying the weight of past year’s struggles. Still, he stayed focused, and has now achieved a complete turnaround. Back in May, during an appearance on On3Sports, ex-Georgia QB Aaron Murray weighed in on how Carson Beck would perform in his first year at Miami. When asked where Beck stands, Murray didn’t hold back and said, “I still think at the end of the day, if Carson was healthy, he probably would have been the number-three quarterback taken off the board.” But Murray also pointed out areas for growth. “He needs to learn to continue to play within himself, play a very mature style of football.” Beck has talent, but refinement is the key. And that’s where the red flags from Carson Beck’s past come into play.

Murray was candid about Beck’s past struggles. “Speaking of the word mature, I think that’s the biggest red flag for me right now. where is he in the maturity factor?” he said, pointing to disconnects in Georgia’s locker room. “There wasn’t this guy that was a true locker room guy, and that’s why guys kind of rallied around Gunner Stockton.” Then he also flagged off-field distractions, saying, “I’m not saying Carson is like this bad evil person, and stay way from him. But there are some possible character flaws that you’ve heard from the locker room.” But the chaos didn’t stop there. “Then you’re seeing in the off season with all the nonsense on TikTok and then the girlfriend stuff. It’s too much mess,” he added. So, Murray’s critique wasn’t personal. It was a bold take on Beck’s past, and what he needs to fix to reach his potential. Beck needs to focus on football, learning the playbook and leading Miami to the ACC title, rather than getting involved with social media or personal drama.

In 2025, Carson Beck has played up to the expectations put upon him. In the win against FSU, he threw four TD passes, 2 each to CJ Daniels and Malachi Toney. To cap it off, Beck went 20 of 27 for 241 yards, without the usual turnover. Fans quickly began calling for more Heisman buzz for the senior QB. But it is the opinion of Murray that really stands out.

While reviewing Beck’s snaps against FSU, Aaron Murray praised him as “one of the best quarterbacks, if not the best quarterback in America,” highlighting his accuracy and poise under pressure. According to Murray, Beck read defenses perfectly, and made throws “beautiful” and “darn near perfect,” including key completions in the red zone. Now, while Beck is busy chasing top-pick potential next season, Murray delivers a reality check Georgia fans would like to ignore.

Miami’s rise compared to Georgia

Georgia boasts a talented squad with Gunner Stockton at the helm. But their loss to Alabama has shown cracks that need fixing on the field. Issues in the passing game and rising penalties hamper an otherwise solid Bulldogs team. Meanwhile, Miami is cruising at 5-0, leaving no doubts about their dominance. Carson Beck is at the center of it all. In five games, he’s completed 102 of 139 passes for a 73.4% completion rate. On top of that, he has racked up 1,213 yards, and boasts a passer rating of 168.5. Now, with Carson Beck orchestrating the offense, the Hurricanes command respect, whether Georgia fans want to admit it or not.

On Sunday, Aaron Murray made it clear, stating, “It’s Miami and then a distant second. This team is elite.” And he’s not wrong. They boast a resume few can touch. Wins over FSU, Notre Dame, a ranked USF, and a Gators team that has just come off a Texas victory, ensure the Hurricanes are the squad to beat. But when it comes to Georgia. The story is a bit different. In the Week 7 AP Top 25, they sit at No. 10.

Despite lingering frustrations from some Georgia fans over his transfer, Beck’s focus and leadership at Miami are undeniable. Some fans are surely experiencing some level of regret. But for now, the spotlight is in Miami. Beck’s play is driving the Hurricanes toward a deep playoff run and maybe even a natty.
