Is Alabama letting an absolute phenom slip away from its 2027 class? The QB situation could get interesting for the Tide. They were in the good books of elite QB Elijah Haven so far, who is a top target for the Tide. But now that local star Trent Seaborn has pledged to Alabama, Haven couldn’t help but take note.

Trent Seaborn, the 18th best QB in the 2027 class, just announced his commitment to Alabama. This great news complicates things for the No. 1 QB of the class, Elijah Haven. The Louisiana star jumped in with a “congrats brotha” on Seaborn’s celebratory post online.

The commit’s a talented one, but Haven is one of the best. After Seaborn’s commitment, the elite QB’s hopes of playing for the Tide will take a hit.

If Haven ends up signing with Alabama, he’ll find himself in extra competition in his fight to the top. Ty Simpson won’t be a factor in 2027, but his backup, Keelon Russell, is expected to take over, having shown promise in the offseason. That will leave Seaborn and Haven to compete for the backup role, a post they’ll likely be holding for quite some time.

Haven can choose to go the Simpson route, who waited for his turn for two whole years. But in the era of the transfer portal, he won’t have much holding him back. He’s definitely going to be a top candidate if he enters the portal in his career.

Elijah Haven, as a sophomore, hauled in over 4,000 yards in total offense, along with 58 TDs. He also led Dunham Tigers to a Div-III State Championship game as a sophomore which upped his stocks by a great deal.

“Supersized quarterback with first-round pick potential if he can put it all together,” 247Sports‘ Andrew Ivins wrote of the QB. The who’s who of college football have extended a hand towards Haven, including Penn State, Michigan, and Georgia. Alabama truly has to have it all for the star QB to pick Tuscaloosa. And based on his recruiting trends, Alabama still has a chance to bag his commitment.

Elijah Haven floored by Alabama in latest visit

The 5-star QB just paid Tuscaloosa an official visit. And going by his review, it looks Alabama is a favorite for Elijah Haven. “Great coaches, great atmosphere and great game I got to see. Me and my family think the world of this place,” he told Touchdown Alabama.

“You’ve seen the historic success of that program with what coach Saban was able to come in and do, but just a great program, overall,” he added. A top recruit singing praises of Alabama under Kalen DeBoer is something the HC can pat himself on the back for.

Elijah’s father was beyond impressed by the Alabama visit. “Now it brings up right up to the top,” he told On3, which had Florida and Penn State leading as the QB’s top landing spots. But the Tide has come up at the top, dethroning the Gators.

Also, now that Billy Napier and James Franklin are out, it “changes things” for Elijah Haven, his father said. But DeBoer will still have to beat hometown favorites LSU for the star player.

Elijah Haven will announce his commitment on January 1, 2026. Until then, he will still be looking at Alabama with starry eyes, unless his other visits sweep him off his feet instead. With Trent Seaborn in the mix, Haven will have to rethink whether a spot on the Tide’s roster is worth the long wait it’ll take.
