Come what may, the rumors just don’t stop around Lane Kiffin’s possible move to Florida. The Ole Miss HC has continuously maintained that Oxford is home. There’s little reason for him to leave the Rebels just after taking them through their best season in years. However, some at Florida are hearing new and surprising things about Kiffin. Now, it does seem like the gears are being set for the biggest move in college football.

Florida is desperate to find its next head coach. The losses in these past few years have now spiraled out of control. And ever since Billy Napier vacated his seat at Gainesville, Lane Kiffin has been the No. 1 choice. Even now, it’s still a will-he-won’t-he scenario. But 1010 XL’s Jeff Prosser and Dan Hicken have some exciting intel about the situation. “He’s coming,” Prosser said on a recent episode of Swamp Sessions.
Jeff & @DanHicken on what they’re hearing regarding Lane Kiffin and the Florida coaching search.

“I’m hearing things like, you know, they had sat down with the dude,” he added. Kiffin is the most attractive name across all the coaching hot boards as of now. But what makes the situation still very unpredictable is the two contrasting courses of events happening at Oxford. Lane Kiffin hasn’t signed the automatic contract extension that came after the 7 win of the season. His current contract runs till 2031. However, he’s also casually dismissed the rumors, telling players that they make the rounds every year. And, he credited Ole Miss football as the reason behind his name being such a sought-after one.
Despite the lack of clarity for this situation, most experts believe that Lane Kiffin’s best fit will be Florida. Kiffin’s ties to the state because of his family, his relevance there as a recruiter, and his current success with Ole Miss make him a slam-dunk choice for the role. Surprisingly, Kiffin has been keeping tabs on Florida despite not clearing the air around the situation. The Rebels HC decided to have some fun on social media yesterday, reposting an On3 post that announced DJ Lagway being benched for Tramell Jones.
If Lane Kiffin does shake up the status quo and actually leave Ole Miss, his next job will easily be a well-paid one. And the numbers circulating around his possible shift to Gainesville are breaking through all barriers.

Florida willing to go above and beyond to secure Lane Kiffin
Getting Lane Kiffin at Florida will come with a heavy price tag. The rumors surrounding the possible move are said to feature figures that will stun college football. Prosser heard a sum that could set him up for some real good things at Florida. “What about this number for a coach?” he began with, teasing what could be Kiffin’s pay at UF. “What about $20 [million]?”

Prosser couldn’t specify what this figure meant. But it could really be Lane Kiffin’s annual salary at Florida, which would make him the highest-paid football coach. Or, it could be the sum total of his Gators contract, which makes $20 million a more believable number. CBS Sports’ Jake Winderman also shared on X that Kiffin might be paid $20 million per year. It’s a big jump from his $9 million at Ole Miss. Orlando Sentinel’s Mike Bianchi cited Sportrac’s possible $150 million bid for a 10-year contract.
But Florida floating that number around means it’s likely that the Gators are going big for their next era, under a new a head coach. If that has to come under Lane Kiffin, Florida will have to break its banks, without a doubt. The question is, will the grass becoming greener at Gainesville be enough for the Rebels coach to come back home?
