Florida State is trending for all the wrong reasons right now. What should’ve been a celebratory announcement is turning into a meme-worthy moment. The Seminoles somehow managed to mess up former Oklahoma RB Gavin Sawchuck’s transfer announcement. And it’s got the college football world chuckling. Or cringing. Depends on who you ask. 

So, here’s what happened. On May 6, FSU Football officially welcomed Gavin Sawchuck to the squad via an Instagram post. “An explosive, all-round running back is in #tribe25 – welcome to the #nolefamily Gavin Sawchuck!” read the caption. Sounds like a win, right? The kid’s fast, versatile, and still has two years of eligibility left. The caption was solid. The graphics were cool. But the actual photo? That’s where the wheels fell off. Now, fans are beginning to question if they’re really looking at the face of this explosive RB who is expected to make changes for the Seminoles in 2025.

You see, Gavin Sawchuck isn’t just a random portal pickup. He was once a force with the Sooners. Back in 2023, the 5’11 receiver was incredible — Five straight 100-yard games, finishing the season with 744 receiving yards and nine TDs on 120 carries. His best game from his time at Oklahoma was ironically against FSU, where he cooked them with 105 yards and two TDs. But 2024 wasn’t a smooth ride.

With Taylor Tatum, Jovantae Barnes, and Xavier Robinson surging, Gavin Sawchuck fell out of rotation partly due to his quadriceps injury that limited his play to 39 carries for 128 yards. And then, OU added Cal standout transfer RB Jaydn Ott for 2025, and suddenly, he was the odd man out. And you didn’t need a crystal ball to see what’s coming next. So, he made the smart move and hit the portal. FSU scooped him up, potentially to plug him in for immediate action. This was his chance at redemption, and instead, he’s going viral for the wrong reasons. 

Fans doubt if it’s really Gavin Sawchuck in the photo 

So, here’s where it gets messy because the Noles fans aren’t blind. One person just took a glimpse at the picture and bluntly stated, “This is not Gavin Sawchuk.” Because you see, the guy in the edit didn’t resemble Gavin Sawchuck. 

We’re not talking about a slight blur or bad lighting. No weird angle with a funky filter. “Yeah but who is this?” another person asked. Some fans even said it looked like Atlanta rapper Lil Baby, for you see, this post even made rounds on X. 

You know what the crazy part is? Gavin Sawchuck hasn’t even played a snap for FSU yet. “That picture is 100% not Sawchuck,” another person wrote. Would you call it disrespect? And these aren’t just rival fans trolling. This came from FSU’s own backyard with another chiming in — “That’s not Gavin gang….” Is it then a blunder?

But then, the edit is still live for over 24 hours later. After fans have been calling out saying, “That’s not Gavin in the photo.” Either no one noticed the comments or worse, they just don’t care. Or maybe they’re not in the wrong? 

Well, there’s also a debate among fans in the comments because some are even cross-checking the tattoo on his arm to say it’s really him. But when you post a transfer graphic, it should be crystal clear who you’re hyping. Period. But this conversation aside, Mike Norvell and FSU really got a real deal in Gavin Sawchuck.
