The “Hurry-Up, No Huddle” scheme at UCF made everyone take notice of Gus Malzahn. The same approach even earned him the offensive coordinator job with FSU. Unfortunately, his current work commitment will have to take a back seat as the 60-year-old is going through a tough stretch. On Monday, the OC had to rush back to his loved ones due to a family emergency. During this time, he has the whole Seminoles community standing beside him, pouring out their prayers, including Mike Norvell.

The head coach shared his wishes for Gus and his family. “Obviously, our thoughts are with him and the situation within his family. I mean, it should not affect overall,” he shared. “He’ll be ready to go for practice in the morning. Obviously, working through that situation. But all things preparation-wise, I feel confident about what that will be.” At the time, the reason for the offensive coordinator’s absence was not yet known.

The good news is, the OC would be back on campus for the week 11 road game preparation against the Clemson Tigers. The Malzahn family is a close-knit abode and has always been there for each other. Remember how he rushed to the airport back in 2021 for his daughter, Kenzie?

“Gus’ daughter, Kenzie Stander, who lives in Birmingham, gave birth to her first child (a son) earlier this week,” the official statement read. The coach had rushed to the airport, boarding a flight from Cincinnati to Birmingham, in an effort to reach her daughter as quickly as possible. Much to the fans’ relief, an official statement later shared an update that Kenzie was stable and doing well.

He had already been planning to fly this afternoon from Cincinnati to Birmingham to visit them even before Kenzie was readmitted,” the statement further added. For the Malzahn family, the past few years have been challenging. Soon after, Kenzie was doing well, and the coach headed to the hospital after he broke his leg on the sidelines. He was on crutches for the next six weeks. After he recovered, the family went through another distressing time.
