Garrett Nussmeier, the LSU quarterback, has been making headlines recently. If you’ve been following college football, you’ve likely heard his name mentioned frequently, and for good reason. Nussmeier has stepped into the role of a veteran leader for LSU after an impressive 2024 season, where he recorded over 4,000 passing yards and 29 touchdowns. His bold playing style has kept fans on the edge of their seats. Will Campbell, an All-American left tackle, served as Nussmeier’s protective shield on the offensive line, giving him the time he needed to take on SEC defenses. However, with Campbell’s departure to the NFL as the No. 4 overall draft pick (hello, New England Patriots!), Nussmeier now faces a new challenge: leading LSU with a rebuilt offensive line.
Garrett’s not the only Nussmeier stirring up controversy on the football gridiron. His little brother, Colton Nussmeier, is beginning to make waves as a possible quarterback prospect in his own right. The football-savvy family lineage goes deep; dad Doug Nussmeier was an NFL quarterback and is a veteran coach, so it comes as little surprise that Colton has some heavy game. With Garrett ready for another breakout season at LSU, don’t be shocked if you begin hearing the Nussmeier name that much more as Colton’s story also picks up steam.
Talking about the Nussmeier family name, let’s focus on Garrett’s little brother, Colton. The kid’s been amassing some seriously impressive numbers, and it’s obvious he’s got that same quarterback gene. Colton passed for more than 2,500 yards last year and piled up more than 25 touchdowns, in the process shattering a couple of school records for Marcus High School. But the neat thing about Colton is, he’s not a football machine. Scroll through his Instagram, and you’ll see he’s got a personality that goes beyond the gridiron. His latest post? He’s out there training, working on his game, and still repping that jersey number of his elder brother, ‘13’ even off the field.

But the true MVP moment? Will Campbell sneaking into the comments with “The real 13.” Now, if you are familiar with LSU football or the Nussmeier clan, you know that is not a throwaway. That’s a little playful friendly fire, a little tongue-in-cheek shot, and I mean it, it’s funny.
Garrett Nussmeier, Colton’s big brother, has been wearing the number 13 jersey at LSU, and he’s sort of made it his own thing. But along comes Colton, posting up on the ‘Gram, practicing his golf swing, and, shock, horror, he’s sporting 13 as well. Along steps, Will Campbell, LSU’s big guy on the O-line, just can’t resist. He drops “The real 13” in the comments like he’s getting stuff started at Thanksgiving dinner. Is he anointing Colton the new king of 13? Is he trolling Garrett a little bit? Possibly both.
Colton Nussmeier’s recruiting trail gets hotter
Talking about jersey numbers and legends, it’s like the world is in on the joke because while the LSU team is over here arguing about who the “real 13” is, Colton Nussmeier is out collecting college offers like they’re playing a game. For real, the man just added his 27th offer for the class of 2027, and this one is from Arizona State. “All Glory to God!! Thankful to have received an offer from Arizona State University.”

Twenty-seven offers are not just a stat; that’s a full-on flex. Now, besides Arizona State, he’s already got offers from some serious heavy hitters. We’re talking Alabama, LSU (of course, tradition, right?), Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma, just to name a few. It’s a buffet of Power Five programs, and Colton’s got his pick of the menu. And it’s not even the major programs of the SEC and Big Ten, either. There are schools from across the nation sliding into his DMs.
The Sun Devils are not slackers when it comes to recruiting quarterbacks-they recognize talent when they see it, and presumably, they’re seeing an awful lot in Colton. The ASU coaching staff slid into his DMs (okay, most likely his coach’s DMs, but you catch the drift) and made it official. They’re eyeing his arm strength, his pocket presence, and that iconic Nussmeier swagger that just seems to seep out of his highlight reels.

What’s crazy is how Colton is dealing with all this. Most sophomore high school players would be losing their minds over one Power Five offer, much less 27. But Colton? He’s just rolling with it, uploading his practice sessions, adding a bit of golf, and somehow still finding time to troll the LSU team online. It’s like the guy has this whole “future star QB” thing patented.
