Cormani McClain, a former 5-star recruit, joined Billy Napier’s Gators after a dramatic season with Deion Sanders in Colorado. His early days in Florida didn’t look promising, with his lack of discipline getting called out. But now, seven games into the season, it’s McClain’s time to shine! And he shocked everyone with what he could do when he finally got the opportunity.

Billy Napier made the right choice giving Cormani McClain a chance to fill in for the injured players. He showed his true power by returning an interception for a touchdown and ultimately winning 48-20, making it the first win for Napier against Kentucky since his arrival in 2022. Now he’s settling down with the Gators. His latest Instagram post on October 22 is a confirmation of that. Posting a series of photos of him in action in his last game against the Wildcats, he dropped down a cryptic caption, “Block party in the s🐊p.”

Is a party around the corner? The Gators CB earned it. Their QB DJ Lagway commented, “U lit twin.” Former Colorado teammates Travis Hunter and Omarion Miller also joined with their support in the comments section. But it was Billy Napier who seemed to be most impressed with Cormani McClain.

After the dominant win over a team with three winning streaks, Billy Napier made sure he gave credit where it was due. He said, “When Cormani was on the scout team earlier in the season he would interceptions a couple passes everyday. I would just tell the staff like, ‘Hey, this guy is down here, he got here mid-summer. Doesn’t know as much but he can play man coverage.’” When he hit the TD, his team was so pleasantly surprised and excited that the whole defense got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. But the moment was too good to pass without celebrating the performance of their depth piece.

Cormani McClain earns the trust of the Gators

There was only 3:31 remaining in the fourth quarter when Cormani McClain delivered the Pick 6, Florida’s first since the 2022 season. He scored his first career interception by picking off the Wildcats QB Cutter Boley to the sideline. It gave 25 yards back to the Gators who ultimately sealed the game with an 18-point victory in the SEC clash. The Gators freshman finished the game with the Pick 6, one tackle, and a pass defended.

We don’t know what’s in store for Cormani McClain in the upcoming days but Billy Napier is hopeful for his future. He said, “I think, ultimately, he’s matured to clean himself up a little bit and he’s a rookie. So, yeah, I think you got to continue to do what you’re supposed to do. Good things will happen.” But for now, they better make the best use of their bye week because they have enough reasons to dread their next game with the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs who are just coming off a fresh victory after mauling the then No. 1 Texas Longhorns.
